Title: Civilians, para-militaries and agents
Post by: Sunray on 14 December 2016, 12:45:15 PM
Rick Barlow and his CIA team are not going to materialise any time soon.   I have promised the family a role play urban game with cars, trams, buses,  a railway station and an airport all based on Drop Zone commander city scape squares and card buildings.

The civilians are a mix of Pendraken Si Fi and Minifigs.

The undercover types are mainly French Resistance with some modifications (ie figure in helmet filed down to a cap)

Troops are Russian (until KPA figures are available)

Standing in for the Rick Barlow CIA station commander is a composite conversion.   A Minifigs figure in a suit and  married to another figure's head (the seated figure in Fedora hat  reading the paper) and a right arm holding a pistol.

This "make do" special agent will be baptised "Harry Palmer"   and the plot will revolve around stealing a MiG 25

Any other suggestions for figures, or late 1960s kit very welcome.

Are there any railway figures would work? Some one must do some, surely...

Not very specific there, sorry!

Every N gauge figure I've seen is really small & skinny compared to wargame minis - even Minifigs.

You are right mate!  Phil sculpted the new Si Fi civilians so they are on the same dollies as the Falklands and the Korean range. They are not too futuristic in style, so work a treat. I primed a batch this afternoon.

What's the best deal online for a 1/144 MiG 25 ?

* Got a deal on Jadlam £2.80 with free postage - other Revell kits available

Hello

Most of the 1960s cars are N scale or 1/160. RP Hobbies used to be good value but his website is closed at the moment. If you do a search on 'N scale 1960s cars' you get a lot of results, the only question is if you want to pay those prices :).

For figures there is the SCW10 - Running with rifle in civilian suit

VBCW BR154 Flat cap, overcoat and shotgun

WW1 Austrians are always handy with their cap

Sorry don't have any pics, but I have used SCW Guardia de Asaltos as "modern" police types in peaked cap. I've just done them in a suitable paint scheme, but it would not be hard to modify weapons too if you wanted.

Also, the scifi human troopers make good swat teams (accompanied by a WWII soviet sniper)

Lovely work Peter!    :-bd :-bdIt shows that role play with single mounted 10mm is possible.  Intelligent use of SCW and Si Fi ranges.  With a little lateral thinking it shows what is possible.

It also demonstrates to a figure producer - like Leon - and designers like Phil - the retail potential of such lateral applications.  I have been nagging Phil to sculpt the KPA shirt outside the trousers as it then becomes a jacket for bush war types and boosts additional sales.

What rules did you use/amend to work with ?

I've done lots of them like that now. ;)

I have both. Some usefull things in there. And the simple system lets you add whatever there is missing with minimal fuss!

Yes, I bought the set, but there seem to be new ones now - I think one is Wild West, and another one I forget the name of. I found the SF ones a bit too generic, unfortunately.

Well, i only have WWII and zombie sets, and the support supplement that gives you scenarios, rules for weather and for terrain. Also included is a chapter on building terrain, wich is a bit basic but still nice to read.

Also, There are some optional rules that fit in with the science fiction one, giving more options, like psionics and aliens that ooperate by a hive mind.

If you don't have them, maybe it's worth checking those out!

Thanks for that Peter- in addition to figures, scenics and bits and bobs, I also need to find rules that allow for single based figures to interact with  my regular BKC "4/5 to a base" wargame figures.

I have ordered the Zombie Dawn as a potential template

well in USE ME you can just count them as a squad, and mark how many are still alive. Ranges are measured from the leader of the squad, and movement is done by moving the  leader and forming the rest up around him, so just designate a leader on your base and measure from there.

Great pics Peter and pretty much the same as I've done down to the cars and Dropzone Commander scenery. I have experimented with the Fireteam modern rules (Wargames Vault) for a larger scale zombie game.

You can easily use Osprey's "Black Ops" for a zombie or alien game (I was thinking Predator...).

As it's got a build system for troops, you would just NOT take ranged weapons, make them tough and slow (or speedy fast or whatever flavour of zombie you prefer), and run a "normal" team against them. Or slip them into a normal game :D
