Title: Battle of Schweinbach
Post by: FierceKitty on 06 November 2016, 11:56:22 AM
Austrians have just defeated Prussians a second time. It helps to be up against an enemy who lets you engage his cavalry on your own terms. Pictures will follow when the shell shock has worn off; no rush, I made general yestere'en.

The Prussians need a word with themselves!

Prussians got some deterrent effect here, but then masked their biggest battery, which was overrun by my hussars late in the game.

I like to feel that the baggage and the baggages will be secure.

Breakpoints are raised if one holds a built-up area or two.

Bad news for me. Prussian Jaeger with rifles; when this picture was taken, Browne (at four o'clock, withdrawing the Bethlen hussars) was fatally wounded (i.e. we dice at the end of the round to see if commanders at risk were wounded and have now succumbed). Horse may not attack LI in woods.

Here we see the Austrian right. It took a long time, and when the Prussian cavalry broke there was no need to turn their flank, since the army was retreating anyway. But there was some satisfaction in feeding in the reserves as needed.

Another shot. Friedrich was oddly inert and defensive; Daun threw in vigorous attacking forces all over the field.

Lesson for today; don't (DON'T) use your C-in-C to lead the first main assault of the heavy cavalry. The battle ended extremely rapidly when the Prussians blew away a cuirassier unit and general with their first volley; one Prussian unit broken by Imperial artillery, and a few scattered other losses.

Just one picture this time; new first volley marker being used, though it wasn't quite anticipated that it would be the only volley of the battle.

Hmmm. Celebrating my day off with another SYW battle; the little Siamese/Chink is unfortunately outshooting me rather severely in the opening stages of the artillery battle.

Prussian musketry is turning the tide in the fiercest firefight we've had yet with these armies.
