Title: Newbie Greetings...
Post by: snake777 on 30 October 2016, 01:11:59 PM
Hi All,

Greetings from deepest, darkest, Dartmoor :D

Have just received my first batch of 7YW minis and am very impressed! wonderful sculpts, full of character and very easy to paint, which is a bonus for me as I am slower than a very slow thing when it comes to getting stuff finished...

Here is a couple of pics of my first battalion, IR Fürst Joseph von und zu Reichenberg... Yep, it's for a small imagi-nations thing I've got in mind... go gentle on me!!

Best wishes,

Stu.

What ho, Mr 777.

Nowt wrong with an imagi-nation - 'specially when so well painted.

Thank you Gentlemen, good to be here  :)

This is my first foray into 10mm, I've dabbled in most other scales but always seem to be unable to complete things, mainly because I get too ambitious, so this is going to be a small project, just a few units per side, based upon the little known 'War of the Great Pumpkin' caused by the Prince-Abbot of St. Hildaburger half-inching the Prince of Reichenburg's prize specimen ...  ;)

Here's a couple more pics...

Excellent first foray into a wonderful period. I particularly like your flags.

As I understand it Nick is slightly further north near Exmoor.

Welcome on board Stu and great work on your SYW/Imagi-Nations figures 8). Mr Harwood is based in Dunster I believe.

Thank you Leman, I design my own in Photoshop and just print them out on bog-standard paper, but they seem to work ok...

Many thanks Steve J... Yep, Dunster is more Exmoor, we don't talk to them there folks...  ;D

Thanks Mollinary, hadn't considered the painting competition, but I might take a punt  :D I'm trying to keep this to reasonable proportions and not get carried away... hopefully I should get it done... I just have to make sure I paint everything I have before I buy more minis!!! ;)

Like the flags, too.

Thank you Westmarcher  :) It is a beautiful range and very easy on the eye and hand! I'm just debating whether to exaggerate the flagpoles on the standard bearers, so my flags can be larger, not historically correct, but I do like colourful drapery!!  ;D

Welcome Stu - nice work 8)

Yep - I'm in Dunster (half the week anyway) and in Dorset (the rest); if you ever fancied an excursion, the Minehead club meets on Tuesday nights at the moment - although I'm toying with the idea of another Nik/MADFest weekender in the spring...

Oh - and it's Nik and Harwood (I'm not commenting on Fenton's typo ;) )

Hi welcome to the forum.

Well I think its welcome, as your yet another painter that make my painting efforts look like I have done them in the garden  with a 1" brush by the light of a new moon.

Thank you Orcs :) but look on the positive side... Your new moon, 1" brush technique probably means you get stuff finished... That is something I aspire to... ;D

Stu ... just HOW deep in Dartmoor? Send 8 figure grid reference and I can find it  ;)

You could try Exmouth Wargames Club, but that is a long way south for you northerners!!

P.S. 10mm SYW is an Excellent choice, paint slow, but never stop ...

Hi Dave, Deepest, deepest Dartmoor...  :D t'otherside of Princetown... Haven't been to Exmouth for well over a decade, used to have my boat there, but that was another life!!!
Am enjoying the SYW stuff immensely, just waiting for my next batch of minis, have been building terrain in the meantime...

Best wishes,

Stu

My two girls just came back from Ten Tors Training today, a little bit of snow and some dampness in the air but otherwise all good. Here is a date for your diary: http://www.legionaryshow.co.uk/
