Hello docfin

I haven't tried Sands of Sudan (bit pricey for me) but I have played around with Science vs Pluck (free version available at http://www.tinywars.com/download-page (http://www.tinywars.com/download-page))

I can tell you that there are Indian lancers available in the WW1 range - BP16

And there are BW1 British lancers from the Boer range.

Here is a post detailing what is being used for substitutes of Sudan types:-

I also used the new ACW  zouaves in turban as Bashi bazouk.
I added in afghan cavalry to bulk out the Baggra cavalry.
BW19 Officers from Boer war
Horses without riders from the ACW range with camel corps to act as horse holders for my mounted infantry.
The generals and riderless horses are about 17 hands compared to the 15 hands high of the colonial range... so much so for the horse holders I added a bump to stand them on so they didn't look too much out of scale.
BW25 heliograph team
NW2 Sikh infantry
NW11 mountain gun pack mules
FPX1 wogrking party for Royal Engineers digging stuff.
