Hi,
I had been lurking this section for sometime (years?) but I had another threat elsewhere (http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,287.0.html) in the forum where I used to show my pendraken figures. Finally tonite I decide to join you in this Painting Diaries format of sharing the hobby. I will keep an update of what I am painting (mostly 10mm), but I am not painting only Pendraken. If there is a problem with that, please moderator, just tell me about.
Now I have 3 projects open... well I could say, as a wargamer I had a looot of projects going on in parallel, but I resolved this conflict when my wife bought me a little drawer of 5 slots. So I decide I can only work in 5 main projects at once, and... of course I need to finish one of the five if I want to enter a new one... so that is good because: first I minimize my projects (or split them in little projects) and second this keep me motivate to finish them....
So nowdays I have:
- Ottoman Turks. - As I already have an araby army I am not going to a big force for turks, just some main units characterfull of the army and I will reuse my dark ages figures to the bulk of the army.
- Baba Yaga and critters of the dark forest: - That is a project of an small army based in forces of the nature and the evilness of Baba Yaga. Have some bats, a giant, some goblins on wolfs, some treemen, etc.... I would like to give a touch of russian flavour. In fact this project is a little bit stuck. And I already split some figures for other projects so... it is not now my main target... but hey once you have a drawer in my little furniture-of-projects there is no turning back!
- Homeric Greek, Myceanan - This army is compose with mycean and troy. So they could work as an army to face hittites, act as sea people and fight egyptians, or even rise theirs bonze swords against the Assyrians. They could even fight themselvesr spliting the figures in mycean units vs troy units for a small siege game. I painted more myceanan than troy units.
and now the units I had painted in September so far:
A unit of Dellis, savage tartars, mads and dangerous. They act as scouts for the Turk army, causing terror and damage in enemy territory
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/DSCF4854_zpsj2f3epdx.jpg)
A unit of Jenizzars. Slave child grew up as warriors in the Faith. They use to be in the hotspot of the battle.
A unit of Azabs, turks soldiers for the provinces of the Half Moon Empire. This unit come from Anatolia and you could see they are volunteers soldiers by his colourful and rich clothes
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/DSCF4857_zpsxirckb5t.jpg)
A unit of Myceanan chariots lead by Menelaus in chariot.
At last a character, it is a Mage. I convert it for the game of this summer "The lonly cabin" (http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,14781.0.html). It has intended to be the Mage in the Castle/lcabin, but I did not finish it at time. They could be also a nice addition to a fantasy turkish/thousend nights/arabian army, as a celestial sorceror or a Moon warlock
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/DSCF4860_zpsqdouolyv.jpg)
Looking good, that man.

All looking great. 8)
Only 3 projects on the go? I have at least 5 or 6! :)
Really like the chariots.
Very cool. Fun stuff with the mage.
A unit of mycean infantry
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/DSCF4864_zpslxvq6mnk.jpg)
and a unit of tartars for the Ottoman army
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/DSCF4863_zpswb8rzbwp.jpg)
Very nice
Definitely.
Cheers - Phil
Because an ottoman army whithout artillery is like garden without flowers!
and now Kapiculu (slaves of the gate), they are an elite regiment of sipahi (free man turk cavalry). They wear the red headgear of the Kapicu
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/DSCF4870_zpshucz6yjg.jpg)
Very nice there.
+1 :)
Cheers - Phil
Another advance in Ottoman empire
Silhidars, bodyguards of the sultan. Each warrior of this regiment is not afraid to die, in fact they are survivors of sucidial missions.

Painted in September so far (I forgot to include the mage...)
Really good. You have been busy.
Very productive and puts my meagre output to shame.
Thanks!
Ten units and some characters, I am satisfy. I hope on October finish the Turkish project and maybe even I could finish mycean army.
I am running out bases, so I put a Pendraken order. Also primer and persian inmortals.
I am liking them very much also Jchaos! The Mage was super!
The bonus for me is you are using my university football colours!

:) :)
Loads of great stuff - particularly like the Ottoman big guns. You must be getting a good sized Ottoman army together by now?

I like this. I need some bases, so I bought some figures too ! ;D
Hope you got extra bases for the new figures as well.
Thanks,
@ d_Guy ;D
@ Fred, by now my ottoman army looks like
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/DSCF4878_zpsysle2ddo.jpg)
It is only left to be painted: a couple units of azabs, and the characters (Sultan with beheaded, music band and caravan of children-slaves).
I know I shlould have a couple units more of sipahis, but I can reuse arab shock cavalry and a unit of dellis that I have in Madrid (in my parents house and where is the main bulk of my armies). So it is good for me as it is.
Nice
Very nice!
Terrific !
Cheers - Phil
First unit of the month. It represent a kid-slave caravan. It was a common practice from the very beginning of the islam world (Turks and Fatamids did), to take captive kids and rise them as slave-warriors in the Faith. Some times those kids were kidnapped other times demand as tribute to subjugate territories. The Jenizars and other elite units from different ages were made in this way.
I was inspired with Mihael Viteazul aka The last crusade film. In the first half hour of the film shows this practice, when turkish take the children of the walachs as tribute.

Good little scene
Lovely little set up there.
Reminds me of the fellowship of the ring group I've had waiting for paint the last um......10 years =)
Good stuff.

Haha I did not see it in that way... but it is true :D
The Fatimids were a bit down the line; Islam's rather older than that.
Yes FK, you are right.
A unit of azabs (turk archers)
a jenizar command. They use a brass pot as standard or a symbol of command. The command titles were cooker titles, like asci basi (Chef of the kitchen) or corbaci basi which means "soup deliverer" and command one orta (regiment) that could be as equivalent of Coronel.... sooo crazy

Another unit of Azabs,
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/DSCF4895_zps1bg1sdvi.jpg)
Ottoman Music Band
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/DSCF4898_zpsou5jg2ys.jpg)
Sultan

Looking great!
I particularly like the stand of musicians.
They should give a morale boost.

Cheers - Phil
I'm liking the musicians too. Good stuff!
More good stuff, are you moving away from WM style basing?
A photography tip - try taking the photos from slightly further away, should help with focus, you can always crop the image before posting.
Thanks Fred,
Picture this morning was quite difficult with kid around.I am afraid still stick to warmaster: Music band is an upgrade of general and sultan is a character.
With those figures I conclude the Ottoman Turk Project. Only need a photo finish, and then I will move on to some goblins and a giant for the Baba Yaga project and some trojan chariots for the bronze age project.
I could plan a lot of non pendraken units. Is it better not to post or do you want to see paint diary growing despite other manofacturers?

I thought it would still be WM style, but I wasn't too sure with the band and general. Nothing wrong with sticking with what you like and know.

Baba Yaga project sounds fun. Leon is cool with posting of some non-Pendraken stuff (you only have to look at my painting thread!) and we all like to see what everyone else is up to.
After a long break my (or our) first painted unit of 2017
trojan warriors
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/troyan_zps6taortmm.jpg)
The picture is not good as I took it with my old telephone.
Anyway the most interesting issue for me of this unit is that I did not painted it alone, it is a cooperative painting effort (such a effort... an patience)

Nice work
Very cute!
And yes, your kid has a decent amount of patience. haha.
Very nice indeed

Nice.
Cheers - Phil.
Here my work of February so far:
First a unit of Persian army. Looking thorugh Persian army ospray I saw an ethipean sailor picture (they one of the left side). I like the concept and I make a subjected infantry unit with the concept of Ethiopean marines. I used Newline Persian subject infantry figures mixed with Pendraken arab tribal infantry miniatures.
Then I painted some trojan, a unit of warriors and a unit of chariots
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/Trojan%20infantrty%2010mm_zpsb65xf8dy.jpg)
At last some heros to make the plenty heros of Homeric legends
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/Homeric%20heros%20warmaster_zps9venf1lx.jpg)
And project complete, Homeric greek army finish
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu205/jchaos79/homeric%20army%2010mm_zpsfxozyody.jpg)
Very nice army
Very cool!
Is it an actual family photo in the sixth shot?
Ooh! I LIKE those! Very nicely done indeed.
As to picture six, I reckon Ajax has set up his camera and Agamemnon is muttering,"Are you sure you set that timer? We don't have all day. We have a city to sack, for feck's sake! If I'm late home, my wife'll kill me!!"
Great looking, jchaos. Love the Trojan war! Have messed with it a bit and work on my figures from time to time - you, sir, have again inspired me.

Thanks guys!
I would like a proper trojan horse, but I am lack of inspiration about the model to use. I know there are a Trojan Rabbit (the one of the Holy Grial film) for 10mm out there. I am tempted to buy it.
Do it! You can have it that Odysseus started a rumor among the Trojans that many Achians worshipped a god called Caerbannog. :)
I'd be inclined to google 'Trojan Horse Model Kit' first, there seem to be quite a few which might fit the bill,
Mollinary
Great stuff, JC !
Cheers - Phil
Personally I believe the Trojan Horse story was a garbled account of the use of a conventional siege tower. With the lower rear section as the horse's body and the tower as it's neck and head it's possible (in the dusk with the light behind it) to see the engine below as roughly horse-like. The Trojans bringing it into their own city may recall the practice of forcing captured defenders to drag siege towers into position.

However, the Trojan Horse story is an excellent one and an actual wooden horse miniature would be cool!
Have you considered Rapier Miniatures 6mm one? It's a little smaller than the horse is shown in movies but I reckon you could fit a dozen Greek Heroes in there at a pinch and at £1.50 it's not going to break the bank.
Pic comparing it to a Pendraken Russian figure.
Looking really good . that model fit what I was searching.
Personally I always thought the Trojan horse was an allegory of a traitor who open the walls/doors from inside. Recently I read the theory about the Siege tower in Osprays books, and seems Ok for me. But If I had to game this I should game with a Huge wooden Horse that carry some forces (1 unit or two). Then they must open the big doors. :)
Very nice indeed
Take care
