Title: Basing to support multiple rulesets
Post by: lentulus on 07 September 2016, 07:27:38 PM
My thinking at the moment is up on my blog.  Anyone doing something similar?  I just started mulling over the idea so this is the time when input is most welcome.

Leon - expect a base order in a few weeks when I have digested all the rules I want to tray.

I've not done this for WWII, which seems to have its own bunch of challenges!

For fantasy I have used sabot bases for different rules - often to take multiple warmaster 40x20mm bases and mount them together. I tend to put magnet sheet on the bottom of my stands, both for storage and sabot basing. Then I use MDF bases with steel paper on to keep the figures in place or even steel bases - this works pretty well, and the figures will generally stay in place. For more stability, especially for bigger units then having an edge to the sabot base can really help things stay together and make picking things up easier.

I suppose my suggestion would be to pick the smallest size of infantry base that is practicable and works for the rules - probably no less than 20mm square. Then use sabots to join multiple stands together for BKC, or others that want bigger stands.

ps I like the background photo on your blog

I will probably do something close to that - after planning charts, spreadsheets, and much hand-wringing.  Where`s the fun otherwise  ;)

And thanks - it was a fun game and somehow the image gets that across.

I have based all my figures to be compatible with all my preferred rules.

I play Skirmish games - individually based figures  :D

Although I am experimenting with Sabot bases...

Is the traytor twinkling like a bat?
