Title: Soviet infantry 1941
Post by: Sandinista on 03 September 2016, 01:43:20 AM
I have started painting up my 1941 period Soviet infantry for BKC, I am planning a infantry battalion to be as follows;

1 HQ company plus 1 45mm AT
1 MG company of 2 HMGs
1 Mortar company of 2 82mm mortars
3 Rifle companies each of 5 stands of 3 figures.+ 1 AT rifle per company (that gives a total of 15 stands of riflemen per battalion)

I plan to have 3 such battalions.

I am wondering should I add a HMG and a mortar to each rifle company, or will that be too many?

Cheers
Ian

I'd have used 3 MG stands in the MG coy and 9 rifle stands + 3 MG stands for the rifle companies. You can either upgrade 1 stand per company as an ATR stand, or have 3 stands as an ATR platoon, they were probably centralised in 41. From memory there were only 4 82mm mortars, so perhaps 1 stand would be better.

As a general rule use 1 base per platoon which will mean you can use as per historical prototype.

From memory they hardly had any AT rifles at this point in the war.

All looks a bit overstrength to me.
There were only 3 rifle platoons per company. The MG platoon only had 2 guns so not enough for a stand IMHO. Same with the mortars and AT guns at battalion level.

I was thinking about that, just seemed a bit small as a unit to me. I shall play around with bases on the table again
