There are some good Byzantine manuscripts of the 11th century, following periods of iconoclasm, and before the 4th Crusade took Constantinople.

Amazing how some of the illo's have survived so well, compared to many of the others :-\
Well thumbed pages (?) or different qualities of the paint/ink ?
