Hi guys,
I am starting a new project. I have two 6mm ECW scotish armies (a present from JChaos) and I am planning how to paint them.
I am looking for help about general ideas/guides to paint full units (if that's is possible in the ECW ;) ) because I am new in the period.
For what I've seen Covenants seem to be depicted in grey jacket and blue beret. That's ok for me.
For Montrose army I have these ideas:
Scots: brown jacket, blue beret
Irish: green jacket, blue beret
Highlanders: mix of colors for the jacket, blue beret.
What do you think?
I will use different tones of blue, but... is it ok so many blue hats??
Thanks!

That is an amazing resource :-bd
BCW Project is excellent.
Would also recommend Project Auldearn http://auldearn1645.blogspot.com
They have wound down at the moment but dozens and dozens of pages of spectacularly painted figures and lots of research on Montrose's army and their opponents.
Oops! Missed the last question. As far as I can tell the blue bonnets were pretty ubiquitous so I don't think you can have too many! :)
As to the Irish in green coats, I don't know that anyone could say it's impossible. There were actually green coated regiments in the ECW.
I tend to be of the opinion that if you like it - just do it!
If memory serves, the royalist regiments that returned from Ireland during the ECW for Marston Moor wore green coats -Broughton and Tilliers Regiments of Foote -so it could be that there was still some left over there.
