I did not wish to disrupt a serious thread elsewhere but did want to share some thoughts on painting tanks:

1. Teamwork is essential.
2. Aluminum extension handles for the brushes are easiest to use.
3. Have the scaffolding (hoarding?) professionally rigged.
4. Don't look down!

The shading on those cylinders is well done.

Great question. For new tanks a high pressure (say 3500 psi) water wash with about a 20 degree spray distribution is usually sufficient.
If a repaint then it is more a trail-and-error process.

Thanks! Photographing in a light-box helps emphasize the shading.
Doesn't that happen when some oik twists the signpost round on a footpath ?
