Title: Request for Photo - WW1 German Askari
Post by: Rob Smith on 21 July 2016, 05:23:47 PM
Hi All,

New to the forum, but I've been gaming with Pendraken minis for years.

My next project is Omdurman. Unfortunately, the later Egyptians and Sudanese are not offered. From looking at pictures of German Askaris, I think they may do, but I am not sure what the Pendraken versions look like. I suppose I could just order a pack, but I'd prefer to place one big order, instead of chopping it up into several orders.

If anyone can help, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob
Austin, Texas

Welcome Rob, and I hope you enjoy your time on the forum. Afraid I can't help as I game WWI Europe and Middle East only at the moment.

(http://)Hello Rob

Welcome to the forum. Pics of WW1 Askari's here http://www.warfactory.co.uk/wp/2015/10/18/10mm-east-africa-british-and-german-askaris/ (http://www.warfactory.co.uk/wp/2015/10/18/10mm-east-africa-british-and-german-askaris/). Headgear probably too tall for what you add looking for at Omdurman. Maybe ACW, FPW or Turkish zouave types might be better. I'm assuming that this is the proxy you're looking for :-

Two gentle strokes with a file reduce a high tarboosh to a low one.

... and I think we can all agree that is an excellent bon mot for life.  :D

"Oh no! The car won't start!"
"Two gentle strokes with a file reduce a high tarboosh to a low one."

"The Pendraken web site just shows shoes!"
"Two gentle strokes with a file reduce a high tarboosh to a low one."

"What shall we do about Brexit?"
"Two gentle strokes with a file reduce a high tarboosh to a low one."

Yes, that is a very satisfying response to most of life's little problems.

"Two gentle strokes with a file reduce a high tarboosh to a low one." says Techno, wielding said file.
"I shall make ready with the plasters", sighs Mrs T.

So far not a single soul on the forum appears to have ever bought a German askari. Leon must have a sh*t load in stock.
