Title: A few more WSS images
Post by: Shutuphippie on 06 July 2016, 04:24:15 PM
These will be the last of the day - honest... Just my newbie enthusiasm! The Next game we play in a few weeks I'll do a more detailed report of the battle and how it developed.

Once again, superb stuff. Beautiful looking units.

A battle report would be good.

Enthusiasm ... we like enthusiasm here!

Also, this time I'll remember my manners and say welcome to the forum.  :-[

Great looking armies.

Welcome, it's always good to see lots of photos of good figures in a big game.

Welcome to the forum, Shut!
Great pix. From my stand point the more pictures you post the better!
Also as Ithoriel said, battle narratives are very welcome.

Welcome aboard. Beautiful looking set up. Are your figures based for Baroque?

Hello

We use black powder rules. We just picked bases sizes that looked good and that we thought represented the linear formations of the period.

Walter Antiss from Commission figurines (he owns his own laser and he produces mdf buildings and 6mm mdf figures) comes to our club so getting the base sizes we wanted was easy 😄

Just wondering what size are the infantry bases?

Really nice, excellent brushwork enhanced by lovely basing (although I'm not sure about the walls. . .)

The painting is very good, the bases are great but I too am not sure about the walls being a permanent fixture on the base. It looks nice but not something I would do.

Howdy,

Thanks for the great comments. My 'hat' battalions are all based normally and all Marching figures

I've only used the walls on a couple of dismounted French dragoon regiments so that they are clearly differentiated from the 'hat' units.

Yeah I get the need to differentiate - I've had to do the same with my musket v dragoon units for Baroque - and they look great but I'd have preferred to find a different way. . .

horses and holders or just rely on the caps maybe.

Still beautiful stuff, this is only a petty comment :)

I just stick on a couple of horses and a groom behind the shooters.

Using the new LOA £1 command pack I'm going to use the dismounted horse in it and make some dismounted dragoon bases to put behind them as well 😄 - probably 3 horses and one figure to a base

There are packs of standing horses in the ACW range - ACW35 I think, should be simple enough to turn into 17thC horses.

Just wondering what size are the infantry bases?

Evening

The bases for Artillery, Infantry and Cavalry are all 9.5cm wide. The Artillery base is 5cm deep whilst infantry and cavalry bases  are 4cm deep.

The bases have rounded edges as well

For Infantry we put 24 figs on a base in 2 ranks of 12. For cavalry we put 9 figs on a base in a single rank.

We put either 2 or 3 guns on each artillery base subject to gun size and also add some of the superb resin Gabions  that Pendraken use to sell plus crew for each gun.

Divisional command are on small round bases and normally consist of 3 figures. For army command we use the superb 18th century coach pendraken make and mount it on a artillery size base

That about covers everything apart from battalions guns which we put on small bases that are 5cm wide and 3cm deep and have a single Gun and crew mounted on them

here's a picture of them in use as dismounted markers for acw cavalry. (the bases on the left)
