Title: Hello, New to 10mm
Post by: Gunfreak on 25 September 2010, 07:30:37 PM
Hey, I've been wargaming for about 3 years now, my main scale is 15mm, but I do 6mm, 28mm and 40mm to, and Now 10mm.
I just wanted to do The alamo in 15mm and ended up buying the Oldglory model and figures, I belive that 10mm is the devils work, but if I'm going to hell I might as well try to reach the 9th circle, so why not do more 10mm, Hope I won't get in trouble buy metionig Old glory.
But I'm thinking of getting some Pendraken figues, I just can't decide between Malburian, 7YW or AWI,
I'm drawn to the AWI becasue there aren't realy that many good 15mm figures, and it would be cool to battle it in 1:10 scale.
But I'm allready doing AWi in 6mm(two diffrent projects) 28mm(on hold) and 40mm, but your AWI ranges look so good. i might have to do it,
But 7yw and Malburian ranges look good to, the problem is the lack of rules I like.

Hi, welcome to the Forum.   8)

Let us know if you've got any questions, and if you have chance, have a browse through the 'Photos' section, there are some excellent painted SYW/WSS and AWI figures in there.

Yes, thats one of the reasons I want to do the AWI, some of those figures look better then most 15mm AWI I can find.
How much of a foot print does your 10mm have, Old glory comes in strips of 5 to 25mm, but yours are single figures? how close can you get them?

Old Glory must be very tightly packed to get 5 in 25mm

I base most of my 10mm's on 40x20 bases - GW Warmaster sometimes get 6 figures in a strip on a 40mm base, which tend to be shoulder to shoulder. With Pendraken 5 is probably about as many as you will get in a single row - below is a base of my WSS figures, with a slightly staggered arrangement of the front and back row.

These are some 10mm Warmaster - cast 6 to a strip - I really can't picture 5 Old Glory on a 25mm frontage

Well I get 4 15mm on 30mm frontage, so I would expect to atleast get 5 10mm on 30mm frontage, but I might have been miss informted, I havn't actualy seen the strips, I only got the info second hand.

My ACW are a mix of OG strips with 5 figures and Pendraken: I got 1 OG strip + 2 PD figures onto a 40mm base:

This WIP pic shows this a bit clearer - the OG strip is the middle 5 figures, with a Pendraken at each flank  ;)

Although with Pendraken you are more likely to get 5 figures to a 40mm frontage - as I did with my Louisiana Tiger Zouaves:

Damn those ACW look damn good, I think I'll have to buy seval packs of diffrent figures

Do you think I can squeese 3 Pendraken ACW on 20mm forntage, That would be perfect, as I get 2 15mm, but if I can get 3 10mm, That would work great.

I 've put five to a 40mm base, AWI units generally fought in open order, so I think that looks right. Certainly six could be fitted in, maybe seven, if you clipped the bases a bit.
I might try to pack more figures on to a base when doing German units since they may have stuck to their tighter less flexible drill.

Thanks - they're not as good as clib's AWI though  8)

I think you'd get 3 onto 20mm - look at the 'surplus' space on my Zouave stand - as clib says, you might have to snip the bases a bit.

Yeah I tend to pack my figures close and I do snip the bases if I feel like it, Not many people play with 4 15mm fin on 30mm frontage, I do it to save space, the more close packed I get them, the more figures I can have on my modest table. I do it with 40mm, 28mm and 15mm, hell even my 6mm is packed closer "some sort of thing that is tightly packed"

Yes in the AWI I would only use 4 to 40mm, to simulate the half open order of the of the formation. Good looking figures by the way.
