Title: Custoza 1866 - A Bloody Big Battles AAR.
Post by: Steve J on 01 June 2016, 08:15:39 PM
Our 'bathrubbed' re-fight of Custoza can be found on my Blog, linked below:

We really enjoyed the game and plan to re-fight part of it 'properly' next time we meet up. Some pics to whet your appetite:

Cool...I think I'm being a little bit thick though - what's bathtubbed again?

"An extreme example of bath-tubbing would be to take a WWII game where each unit is a platoon. Say one side has three platoons and the other has two. Now declare that each platoon represents a division and play on without changing the rules. That's a bathtub game."

Oooops, yes it's meant to say 'bathtubbed' :-[.

So basically you amalgamate some units to make the game easier to manage yet fight over the same battlefield and with the rules unchanged. Hope this makes sense?

Right... so it's just a mental shift of scale then - rather than bunging bases together? I think I understand  ;)

Nice one, Steve. Good to see a tiny Austrian cavalry unit having a dramatic effect - just like in the actual battle! The charge of 103 Uhlans putting to flight a whole Italian brigade at Custoza is an episode that I have always cherished as one of the most remarkable exploits of the period.
