I'm looking for arab/ bedouin type tents in 6mm for an encampment of MAR.TU / Tidnum / Amurrim / Amorites.
Gods know what MAR.TU tents actually looked like but static architecture hasn't changed radically in 5,000 years so I'm taking a wild guess tents probably haven't either.
Baueda do a 15mm version of roughly what I'm after but it's about two and a half times too big. I'm after something maybe 25mm wide, 15mm deep and 7.5mm or so high. (Inch by half inch by quarter inch roughly)
Before I start supergluing my hand to the table, puncturing my fingers while trying to bend paperclips to shape and snipping the tablecloth as well as the tissue paper does anyone know of something ready made?
I'm NOT after - Roman tents, Bell tents, modern "toblerone" shaped tents, medieval knights pavilions.
More than happy to use something not originally intended as a tent if you know of a piece of vehicle stowage or a bottle cap that just happens to be about he right shape and size.
TIA
Failing that, please may I reserve a seat between Techno and fsn in A&E :-)
MID09 - Market Stalls by Leven aren't quite what you're looking for, but might do. http://www.levenminiatures.co.uk/pages/middle_east.htm
Hello Ithoriel
Only ones I can think of are the irregular tents which probably aren't close enough:-

Can't even think. of any paper models

Some piece of electrical DIY gubbins tweaks my memory on that sort of shape - fuse cover? Or maybe a cap for a shower gel/shampoo thing?
Blimey. Can you hot knife something approaching that out of polystyrene?!
How many do you need...
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Feel free to keep them coming if any of you forumites have more ideas.
I have the Leven market stalls and they're not really what I'm after but will eventually make an excellent marketplace for my Sumerian town. Even have some Perfect Six's fantasy range rats to have scurrying around in the background.
The Irregular tents not quite what I want either though I'll bear them in mind, thanks.
Electrical DIY gubbins - should have thought of that myself! Will have an online rummage.
Hot knife - simultaneously excising self inflicted wounds and cauterising self inflicted burns :)
I don't have a foam cutter myself, suspect I wouldn't be allowed as a/ fumes, and b/ burn death and trips to casualty :D
But a cheap knife and a gas hob/chefs blow torch will work nicely...
Shall I put the ambulance on stand by?
Hi Mike.
If you DO end up having to make some......Don't use paperclips.
Buy a 99p pack of fuse wire.......Much, much easier to bend and snip.
The 5 amp will be way too thin.....and the 30 amp will probably be to thick.....But the 15 amp should be ideal.
Cheers - Phil
Thanks Techno, always good to have professional advice!
Fuse wire ... do they still sell that? :)
On the shopping list.
Ho Yus. :)
In fact I'm going to pop down to our little local electrical store tomorrow, 'cos I'm almost out of 15 amp wire.
Gimme a shout if you can't find any local to you, Mike.
Cheers - Phil
Have you thought about florists' wire?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gauge-Silver-Wire-Lengths-Wires/dp/B0050HWV9Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1464719343&sr=8-3&keywords=florists+wire (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gauge-Silver-Wire-Lengths-Wires/dp/B0050HWV9Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1464719343&sr=8-3&keywords=florists+wire)
comes in straight lengths and in coils.
Maybe you could use plastic gemstones, bit like the one on the bottom right of this picture:
As an example of having a looksie on ebay, you can find cheap ones like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Acrylic-Rectangle-Gem-Shaped-Faceted-Beads-13x18mm-12-Pieces-/291774914912?hash=item43ef23e160:g:qzoAAOSwUfNXSCRu
Or you can get something like this and pry the gems out:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BIG-RETRO-80s-FACETED-PLASTIC-GEM-NECKLACE-gold-plated-BLACK-FACET-BEAD-CHUNKY-/140825893351?hash=item20c9e099e7:m:mKyj9AIxxcgV65qG-U5NLkw
Beware: Searching ebay for ' plastic gem' also displays a good amount of 'gem' d&d diice sets, and may result in the purchase of too many dice, that you can never roll at the same time anyway.
You have been warned...
Thank you Peter.
I knew the forum would come up with ideas!
Just ordered 12 pieces Faceted SHIELD Acrylic Beads Blue & Black 26mm x 20mm x 7mm. We'll see how that goes.

None! I was well warned and carefully avoided dice of any sort. :)
I did bookmark some beads that might do as amphorae when I get to doing the docks and market place.
Hello
If it doesn't work out and you're not sure of what they looked like you could always try the Mongolian Yurts. Who can tell you you're wrong :D :D

Off the top of my head: hasn't woven cloth rather than hides been the fabric of choice in the middle east for a very, very long time?
.
Soo-oo-rrrrrrry.

Is your 'ebay' to buy list as long as mine? ;D
Finally finished the first module of a camp for my MAR.TU (Amorite) camp.
Will make a couple more at some point. The canopy at the front will need to be wider on future modules I think, but overall pleased with something made from a 20mm diameter MDF circular base, a resin jewellery bead, some flexible filler, a pair of pins and a sliver of paper :)
The modules shows a 6mm Perfect Six child , assisted by an Onslaught Mercenary Warhound, herding some Perfect Six sheep while being watched by a Baccus Amazon Archer (minus bow). The two jars started life as glow-in-the-dark fishing lures!
excellent
Really nice. :)

Looks great to me!
Very nice! Most impressive :)
How soon for Sumer itself :D
Very nice indeed, Mike !

Got a chance to see the new Ancients buildings that Leven Miniatures are going to be producing, at "Joy of Six." I'm already planning a substantial expansion of my Sumerian city when those come out!
There were some pics posted on TMP - baker's, minor temple, guard post, house/ shop, workshop. I'm planning on having a donkey cart builder in one of the latter, all being well!

Mick said they were originally done as a commission for a model of Jerusalem but I reckon they'd do for much of the ancient Near East.
The Hittites, like the Sumerians seem to have gone in for houses with few to no external windows, relying instead on a central light well. On the other hand I've just passed Mick some pictures of Sumerian houses in hopes he might make one or two so who knows, proper Hittite housing might be in the offing?

Look, if people here ask for very specific info on the lace colour or of the 3rd Monarch's Own Council Estate Borderers during the War of Upper Pangean Independence then surely they can write ger instead of yurt. Yurt is a Turkic word that refers to a dwelling of a more permanent nature than the nomadic Mongolian ger.
Just saying. :D :D
MickS
Bloody hell Mick, next you'll be asking for Mongol heavies in horse armour!
Or even an entire range for them :D
How did either the Mongols or Sumerians fare against Aztecs btw?
Been there, converted them...

I know, terrible isn't it. Still flying the flag for armoured horses though. :)
