In dire need of new brushes and against my better judgement I ventured into GW today in search of a couple of OO and O Brushes.
Imagine my surprise when they were about to charge me £12 and a half quid for a single artifice brush.......
I don't think the chap was impressed when I stated for that price I'd expect the brush to paint stuff for me.
Needless to say my hunt for brushes won't be taking me back into GW
Rosemary's brushes.
I think series 33 (from memory ) are the sable ones, will check tonight.
Good prices £3-4. Dead quick delivery.
Series 99 are a bit cheaper and still good.
I now buy Winsor & Newton Series 7 and they're still cheaper than that...
Windsor and Newton Series 7 - pricey at between £5 and £7 a brush, but definitely the best I've used in 50 years of painting.
I'm sure there are far better brushes to be had than I use, but they just don't last with me. :(

It's the Pollyfilla, bad idea.
I mainly use a mix of cheapies from The Works and Pro Arte Series MP Miniature Painting Brushes from any one of several local art shops along with odds and sods picked up at wargames shows.
If I pay much more than a couple of quid a brush I'd be shocked.
If I'm painting every day (which I'm often not these days) I expect a brush to last me 2 - 6 weeks regardless of quality which makes expensive sable brushes pointless .... literally as well as figuratively :)
Usually get two or three years out of a brush, but then I do use brush soap restorative at the end of a session. Amazing how much colour still comes out, even after a thorough rinsing to start with.
I also really like the Windsor and Newton series 7. Been using them now for over five months and they keep their point better then any brush I've used. I get them from Amazon for around 9 to 10£ each. Pricey but so far worth it.
I use my local modelshop for brushes, but will check out a local art shop to see the W&N no7 range, to see how they compare.
W&N S7, miniature series; got a point like a needle and holds shape and paint well.

Yes the numbers are correct.
I was put on to these by chaps over at LAF - where they are widely recommended.
I've not managed to persuade myself to go with a W&N brush yet - I think I would be scared I'd wreck it.
I am set t order some W&N S7 after the recommendations here
Cheers

I use a mix of Works and Hobbycraft Student brushes. They are not sable but are good enough for me and not too expensive either. I know what people say about false economy and all that but I am using the same set I bought over a two years ago with hardly any loss of point.
Spent 12 quid on the gw arsefacer brush. Actually done sterling service (I m pretty tough on brushes) also got series 7 for £7 but not used yet
I hate those sable brushes, I just can't get them to work for me. So I use synthetic brushes made by Army Painter. I mainly use the Basecoat brush and the Highlighting brush, using soap restorer quite regularly, and they last me at least a year each before the point is no longer usable for detail work. They can be picked up from a number of traders at the shows, but I just buy from Warlord Games. They cost £2.25 each.
I also have a couple of Army Painter brushes, and, yes, they're quite good.
