Title: d&d, always d&d
Post by: petercooman on 18 May 2016, 09:37:07 PM
So, maintaining a steady pace, again some d&d miniatures, but this time touch ups of the pre painted stuff.

I like most of it, but to tie the orcs and goblins in with my other fantasy orcs, i repainted their skin, and gave a couple of highlights to fur parts, hair etc..
i also painted the eyes and nails/teeth

The original skin tone was pretty boring and bland:
Right is the original, left is with repainted skin

All of the dungeon command orcs and goblins got some repaint/touch-ups: (note that these come with a gloss varnish finish, and are a bugger to photograph properly)

The goblins were especially badly prepainted, so i might go back and touch them up some more later.

So much unpainted stuff around, and i'm spending my precious time on stuff that comes ready out of the box  ;D ;D ;D

Same here !!

One of the things (along with the old Heritage LOTR figures) that got me into the little soldiers.

Moved from Empire of the Petal Throne to D&D in 1974 and struggled on with it until 1980 when I went over to SPI's Dragonquest system. When that went out of production I cannibalised the Dragonquest rules to produce the imaginatively titled Headdenquest rules that I still use on the odd occasion that I do tabletop RPGs rather than computer ones these days. I went over to a D20 system before the OGL D20 System (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srdarchive) was produced - one of the very few times I've been ahead of my time :D

I really enjoy d&d 5th acually. I like the straightforward gameplay, and not having a gazillion modifiers for a roll.

A couple of years ago or so I bought all the Dragon Warriors rule books in their new modern, shiny hardback versions, great fun, need to do more RPGaming.

It was AD&D for me, throughout the 80s. We would play as often as we could, often 12hr games (or at least it dealt like that!). And would spend even more time discussing games.

We tried lots of other rules, but the only ones we played a lot of where a King Arthur era game, which was very different in style as the GM was the only one with the rule books. And he was a very good story teller.

It's like soccer, there are as many supporters of one ruleset as there are teams  ;D
