Title: Tale of X Gamers - 100YW French
Post by: Nosher on 21 September 2010, 03:40:40 PM
Be gentle with me - first foray into 10mm in some time ;)

Next up, 8 stands of Genoese Crossbowmen.

They look fine to me Nosher. It's amazing the difference once some flock goes on the base, somehow it all comes together.

The peasants are revolting, the peasants are revolting  ;D

Couldn't resist  ;)

Lovely stuff nosher - looking forward to seeing these armies in their entirety

Definately have the bit between the teeth tonight - 8 stands of Genoese Crossbows added to the done list :)

Next up an eight stand unit of Voulgiers. If I get 12 stands of mounted knights and three command stands done I will have a starter French army completed :o

I wonder if William Hill/Paddypower will take a spot bet of £200 on me finishing them by the weekend??? If only I were a Pakistani Bowler :P

Voulgiers finished and four stands of Francs Archers done too. Tackling the Knights over the weekend and boy am i enjoying digging out my garish colours and using them!

I reckon I'll be starting the English early in October.

Already have a list of reinforcements in my basket ;)

Apart from command stands (and the reinforcements which are still to arrive) this army is nearly finished.

3x8 stand units of crossbow, 1x4 stand unit of francs archers, 1x8 stand of voulgiers, 3x4 stand units of Knights, 1x4 stand unit of handgunners (not 100YW but ready for ordonnance!), 1x6 stand unit of light crossbowmen, 1x8 stand unit of peasants and 1 artillery stand.

I'll post pics when the bases are flocked.

Not bad for an army bought in mid September and finished the first weekend of October. In the wings (reinforcements) there are:

8 stands of Brigans, 6 stands of Bidets, 8 stands of dismounted knights, 10 stands of mounted knights, 4 stands of crossbow and a CinC stand.

In the famous words of Freddy Krueger.... They're here!!!!!! ;)

Not too happy with the basing - far too dark an earth colour. I really am crap at basing >:( I think that I am just going to flock the whole bloody base and be done with it. As with any army, I say this is finished - reinforcements are on their way in the shape of more knights, bidets and brigans, but I am going to make a start on the matching English army next.

The overall effect is great Nosher. As for basing, check out the GW website as they have loads of different base effect guidelines. As for your bases, just a drybrush with a mid brown followed by a light tickle in a few areas with a cream type colours should work wonders. For my bases I use GW paints as follows:

Scorched Earth base coat.
Liberal wet brush with Bestial Brown.
Local drybrush with Bubonic Brown.
Local highlight with Bleached Bone.

Check out my Blog to see how it looks. Easiest to check out any of the large hills or woods in the pics to get a good idea. Hope it helps.

BTW Nosher, what ruleset are you planning on using?

Cheers Steve and thanks for the advice on basing - most helpful. I just find that bit of the job so bloody boring. These figures will be used for FoG and for WMA.

Glad to have been able to help. Once you have got used to it Nosher, the basing becomes quick and easy to do.

Having seen your forces completed, it has got me interested in possibly gaming Ancients and/or Medieval using WMA. I've seen FoG played at our club, but the big advantage of WMA, is that I'm used to the basic principle of the rules having played BKC, CWC and recently BP. At my age, I'm happy to keep it simple ;).

No probs Steve ;)

I'm very much with you on the 'keep it simple' one rule mechanism genre - I also own BKC, CWC and FWC which is why WMA was an obvious choice. From time to time I do like more complicated games such as FoG and the real beauty of the Fog basing system is that it can translate directly across to WMA and vice-versa.

I can also use the same basing system for Bloody Barons another fun set of rules based on the Wars of the Roses.

Those look very nice nosher - very nice indeed; I'd echo Steve's suggestions for your basing - just to lighten them up a touch. Let us know how you get on with Bloody Barons too: I've heard good things about it, but have resisted so far  ;)
