I've just recently started collecting and painting the NWF range from Pendraken after many years sitting on the side lines looking at rules, figures and paints. At the moment it's a solitary thing but you never know one day I'm might come out.
It's great to have a site like this to know that I'm not alone. I must say I'm very impressed with the figures from pendraken and a wonderful service. It has a friendly feeling

You need to watch the pottering - I came back to wargame a few years ago - and the gaming part really hasn't had a look in (I think 3 games of Warmaster, all on the same day, and some solo BKC). But figure collecting and painting has been quite large, and still ongoing.

I think as Fred said it's the "pottering" bit of wargaming that I'm into. There's certainly a theraputic value in collecting and painting figures. I find the hours do whizz by while I'm painting and maybe it's the insanity or at least OCD that captures me into the details of the figures - particularly painting the lovelocks on the afghan warriors and the process of taking the figures from start to finish (well actually I haven't finished any yet but have got some nearly done)
I think like some other members I was into Airfix in my younger days and just never lost that childhood romance with toy soldiers. It was everything from the artwork on the boxes, the detailing of the figures and the history that went with them. I don't know if there are any pyschologist's on the forum but from other sites I've there's a renaissance in wargaming figures and it's my guess that it's born again "Airfixers" that are fuelling it but that's just a guess
I bought my first Pendraken figures some years ago and then go no further than painting the base colours and then this year I found I needed a relaxation and have been addicted since.

I very rarely game these days, either painting for myself rarely or for some one else.
Most of time writing scenarios and ORBATs for other people and own use.
And probably have the longest running wargames book project in history, 11 years and counting and still not finished.
"And probably have the longest running wargames book project in history, 11 years and counting and still not finished." it sounds like my own attempt at writing my own solo rules, which to me is part of the enjoyment of dipping into the wargame world in that it covers such a wide range of activities. Thanks for the welcome and if you get round to publishing the book I'll get it.
