Hi everyone!
I've been playing with the idea putting together triple alliance armies, the thing is that I don't have images of the minis, I'm guiding myself trough pictures from the armies involved and european armies (french actually).
This is what I've been thinking it might work.
Argentina:
Line infantry: FPW10.
National guards: SAP1, SAP2, SAP3 (no photos available)
Legion Militar: ACW20.
I've seen paintings, pictures, etc. and the chasseuers a pied from the crimean war and mexican intervention fit a bit better, the argentinian kepi has a narrower top and seems stiffer, almost shako-like, but i've found no pictures of the CF2 minis
Uruguay:
Line infantry: CF1 (but there are no pictures) or perhaps CM1/CM2 from the canadian militia range.
National guards: ACW1-6.
Brasil.
Line infantry: ACW1-6 and SAP3.
Volontarios da patria: ACW7-12 or ACW23 (iron brigade).
Zuavos de bahia: ACW18.
Paraguay:
Infantry: SAP4 (again no photos available).
Cavalry and artillery where fairly similar in all the contending armies.
cavalry: SAP8, SAP10, MX1.
Artillery: SAP15, SAP17.
I think that pretty much would cover the general aesthetics of the war. Later I'll upload some images I've found.
If anyone have any of the photos could you share them please? Or say where could I find them?
Thanks in advance!
I mean to start work on an army of the real Triple Alliance as soon as possible. ;)
I think the trickiest problem is going to be Paraguayans in loin cloths and kepis.
With bolt-action maquahitls?

Might not be the most difficult conversion job in the world in 10mm? A blob of putty and a judicious stab or two with a craft knife should do the trick.
As it happens we will be fighting Tuyuti again in a couple of weeks. A report on our effort last December is here:
http://bloodybigbattles.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/south-americas-biggest-battle-tuyuti.html
We will be trying a revised version of the scenario this time.
Sadly we will have to use proxies as I don't have any Latin American armies. Fortunately in 6mm it is not so crucial to have exactly the right figures.

Bloody Big BATTLES!

Ooh - a craft knife in the groin area! :o :o :'(
Techno?
Regarding the paraguayan uniforms, I've read that their line infantry used white trousers, the militia used chiripá (kilt) and went barefooted, at least early in the war. Later, totally cut off from the rest of the world, they all started using chiripa, and loin cloth, or going half naked (if not naked) as their situation got more and more desperate, that's why I thought of SAP4 ragged foot
Are there any photos of: CF1, CF2, SAP1, SAP2, SAP4, SAP8 and SAP10?

I did a search on "South American Pacific" and found a number of threads
These four have pictures of the figures, although I haven't checked for code references, hopefully they will be of some use.

There are others
Well I bought both the Ospreys and went with the Pacific War because the figures were already available in 10mm. [Mind you, I did already have the Caliver book bought as a retirement present.]
Thanks paul, I've seen them already, but I don't know which figures they are, I mean there code (SAP1,2,3, etc.), though in think nikharwood bolivian line infantry would do a great paraguayan inf (or brazilian line).
For some reason the images didn't upload well, what colud have been the reason?? In the "preview" before posting they showed.
The only one that got through is the one that shows the "Florida" uruguayan battalion, comparing it with other armies I think the uniform of the french foot in crimea would do, but for the life of me I can't find photos of CF1.
Also Chasseurs a pied from the same period would fit like a glove to the argentine line infantry, but again can't find photos of CF2.
I'll try to see what went wrong with photobucket and try to load the images again. No way to load them straight from the folder to post??
Thanks for you advices!
Looks to me like one of those Brazilian types could be provided by Confederates. I'm sure most troops probably dumped their packs before fighting.
I see the images finally appeared!
The argentines are the second image from the bottom, the description would be: I- Legion Militar (mainly because of the red kepi), II- Line cavalry, III- National Guard "Buenos Aires" battalion, IV- artillery, V- sappers, VI- National Guard Cavalry, VII- line infantry, VIII- National Guard infantry, IX & X National guard artillery.
Yep, that's what i was thinking, confederates or Iron brigade minis would make perfect "voluntarios da patria" (national guards). Brazilian line infantry looked very much like union troops with white kepi and pants.
the tricky ones are uruguayan and argentine line infantry, they used to go to battle dressed in "grande tenue", in the philosofy of "if we are going to die, might as well be fancy about it". The Legion Militar could be well served by the chasseurs a pied of the franco-prussian range (FPW10), i've seen them here:
http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,6072.msg58584.html#msg58584
mixed with some SAP infantry doing the part of the Legion d'antibes.
All I need is some image of CF1 and CF2 to see if they'd fit the bill for uruguayan and argentine line respectively.
Those pictures do look rather lively. :)
I agree, awesome works, I liked what he did with the first schlewig war.
Well I'm shortly reviving this post to upload a couple of pictures.
CF1/2, thefit the bill as uruguayan infantry in parade uniforms, just might make a head swap to the standard bearer.

And SAP14 as brazilian generals, perhaps Polidoro.

Sorry for the quality I could not get anything better.
