How apropos that #1814 would be from the colonies.

Agreed. And some of us remember that America gave us contract bridge and Stanley Kubrick.
Welcome to the madhouse, OBJ. :-h
Cheers - Phil
Welcome on board :)
Hello and welcome
Welcome your Majesty.
Nice to have a King of Bohemia in our midst. Give the place a bit of class.
Even bringing us quotes from the great Marx. (For the plebs, that's Groucho, not Karl.)
So does 1814 also point at your period of preference?

Check the pavements in New York, then in London. It might be an interesting comparison.
Hi, Number 1814. :-h
Hi oldblindjohn! Welcome to the forum.
I think the responses so far in this thread give a fine flavour of the warmth and weirdness on display in the forum at large :)
I hope you enjoy your time here.
Thank you one and all for the nice welcome.
My favorite wargame periods are Hittites and Egyptians, WAS, and late 17th century land warfare.
The nick name came from my thesis advisor. I quoted John Milton a bit while dong post graduate work. Plus I was some what older than my colleagues.
Again thanks for the welcome.
Ah! So do you have a special adaption for your computer? How do you paint? Better than I do probably!
I have been gently agitating for chariot armies for a while now. Perhaps you could add your vote? To be fair, the voting system is something akin to the Chinese Communist Party Convention. There will be much Warband in our future, then hopefully some post WWII, but I'm hoping that chariots may make an appearance. Minoans, Egyptians, Assyrians, Hittites ...

I'm afraid I don't paint very well, and I find it burdensome and tiring. Sacrilege I know.
I use the same kind of glasses that your dentist uses while working in your mouth.
Our group still uses WRG 5th edition. It seems uniquely situated for chariot armies.
The only tweek we made was reversing the ranges for foot bows and chariot mounted bows.
Chariot warriors of this period were upper crust lads and used expensive laminated compound bows as opposed to the cheap simple bows used by the mass of foot archers.
We have tried other rules for ancients but have found the 5th edition clearly written and fast play.

A lot of us use something along the same lines, John.

Sacrilege? Ah well, I fear I am equally sacrilegious. I like the results but not the chore of painting.
As to bow ranges and 5th edition I regret we must agree to disagree.
That said, nice to see someone else with an interest in the Bronze Age.
Welcome, oldblindjohn! :-h
Welcome aboard :)
