Title: Wendy Arch in London
Post by: Westmarcher on 19 April 2016, 12:39:34 PM
Apparently, there's all these people walking around a 2/3rds scale Arch in Trafalgar Square (see link below).

A bit like 15mm figures with 10 mm scale scenery? Surely not!

Sshh! Don't tell Ithoriel.   :-$   ;)

[Actually, the article gives out some good news of sorts with apparently more of Palmyra being intact than previously thought.]   :)

Am I the only person who finds it ironic that the acronym for the Islamic State In Syria, a rabidly monotheistic group who view any form of representational art as being heretical and anti-Islamic, is the same name as a major ancient Egyptian deity;  a deity who, among her other attributes, was responsible for teaching the Egyptians to brew beer?

Interesting observation Dan. Our government (US) calls them ISIL which, strangely, makes me think of "Dune" (OK that was "usul" but what are a couple vowel shifts).

And, as my Pakistani colleague reminds me from time to time, the Koran doesn't actually forbid booze (though it specifies you shouldn't pray when drunk, possibly in case it goes to the wrong prayermail address).

AS FK says the Koran does not ban booze. Firstly it talks about fruit of the vine, and it appears the Prophet started saying you may drink in moderation, then only on certain days, finally banning it, due mainly to the behaviour of the locals. It is of course entirely practical, since alcohol dehydrates, not good in the native climate, and the locals don't have the same tolerance as us Europeans. That is because our source of boiled water was small beer, theirs coffee. This also of course proves evolution, so yah boo sucks to you creationists.

All religions are evil...but some are more evil than others.

Actually, the stupidest ones probably do the least harm.

Actually, FK, I think we agree on more than you would imagine. I don't think I've mentioned my Macedonian, Successor and Roman armies for quite some time, as well as my post-Roman Britain foray and my C13th feudal English armies.
