Title: Rolls Royce Armoured Car - in MDF
Post by: jimduncanuk on 14 April 2016, 06:40:06 PM
A Rolls Royce Armoured Car in MDF by Warbases

Looking for mobile support that is not on a horse or in a tank then this is the place for you.

Rolls Royce are quoted as having said when asked 'their horsepower is "adequate"'.

As far as a 28mm model of a Rolls Royce Armoured Car goes I can say that "this one is more than adequate".

Definitely 'more than adequate'.  8)

Much better finish than I'd have expected from a vehicle made from MDF.....Or did you do a lot of 'cleaning', Jim ?

Cheers - Phil

No, the wife doesn't let me touch the hoover.

Oh, you mean on the model.

Next to no cleaning up required. Just a little bit on the MDF where you cut the pieces free. A quick scrape with a hobby knife sorts it out. A wee bit on the card pieces too.

I didn't even prep the model before painting. Went straight onto the black acrylic basecoat.

That's a nice model Jim. Warbases do make some good stuff and Martin can be very helpful. A few years ago he made me a selection of his 28mm VBCW in 15mm as a special order.  :)

Good step by step guide and nice paint job, Jim. Impressed by the curvy bits - somehow had in my mind that mdf = flat, square, box like structures - what a good option this medium is turning out to be in the hobby.  Birthday gift (belated Happy Birthday, by the way)?   :)

How DO they get the curved bits out of mdf?

It's thinnish laser cut card, as per Jim's blog post :P

Nope, birthday gifts were a bundle of vouchers and a John Lennon (Imagine) T-shirt.

Check out the pictures. Thin card bent around MDF formers.

Yup, said that in the sentence right after the second paragraph on my blog.
