Hello!
I'm a total beginner to 10mm, and a fairly new recruit to the world of wargaming and miniature painting in general. I am a real Great War buff, and have tried 15mm and 6mm, too big and too small respectively. 10mm seemed like the perfect scale, and with an added bonus, has the best community I've seen.
Hopefully you'll see me around!
-Nick
Welcome aboard Nick, you will get lots of friendly help and banter here, enjoy :)
Welcome Nick. For my Eastern Front games I use 10mm.
Ah, Aussies. Great people. :)
S'truth, Colonials of a feather .........
By and large I loathe my fellow South Africans.
Welcome Nick
What rules do you use for WW1, particularly in 6MM. I have a couple of painted armies I inherited and keep meaning to try them out
Welcome on board Nick :)
Thanks, everyone!

I only ever played one "skirmish" size test game, but we used Spearhead rules with the Great War supplement. The game actually played quite well, and we might adjust them a little for use in our 10mm wars.
Welcome Nick.
My cousin lives in Australia. His name is David. Do you know him?
If you're a WWI buff, there's a great thread here somewhere about a Gallipoli project done with Perry figures. Anyone have that thread URL handy?
I've recently been to Bovington to see the Centurions and other animals, and was enthused to climb into a MkIV. It tempts me to try the Allenby campaigns - but at the moment I'm stuck into late Normans (don't ask "late Norman's what?" - that's Westmarcher's job), but seem also to be painting some generic trains. I have a butterfly enthusiasm that I feel is going to pull me towards some WWII Poles.
Anyway, a hearty welcome.
Welcome, Nick. Great War, you say. No doubt you will therefore have seen the newly introduced British supply wagons. Not my period but who can't help being seduced by such gems. Hopefully, we'll read more from you in future (especially as you have now met fsn aka Nobby aka Milord Oik).

p.s. Is this it, Nobby?

That's it! I think there's a thread on the forum as well. :-\ One of esteemed members was instrumental in the project.
I managed to find the thread, paulr would be the esteemed member you're talking about!
Welcome aboard Nick.
I think you're right about 10mm being a good compromise of detail and size though I still collect in anything from 3mm to 15mm.
The Pendraken range is extensive, you may need to prepare yourself for starting off looking for an addition to your WW1 collection and finding that you've suddenly bought a League of Augsburg force or a Late Roman legion! :)
Two members, paulr and pierre_the_shy, have been doing very nice Middle East WW1 stuff as has another member, WeeWars. The latter runs Supreme Littleness http://www.supremelittleness.co.uk/ (http://www.supremelittleness.co.uk/), a site that does mdf scenery. He's done some interesting 10mm trench formers - just add filler.
Paul's thread about the Great War Exhibition in Wellington is inspiring. http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,11412.0.html (http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,11412.0.html)
As to the painting, if you post pics here not only are people very kind and gentle in their comments but those who are any good will often give useful suggestions on techniques to make them even better. Feel free to chip in with your two ha'porth too.
Enjoy whatever time you spend here.

Welcome Nick - as you can see there's a fairly diverse bunch of gamers in on the PM forum - its all good 8)
Paul is the person that FSN was referring to.
he has painted a fair bit of 1914 BEF and German Army stuff for me...better than I could ever hope to do: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,10195.0.html
We are based in Wellington and play a reasonable amount of normally brigade sized WW1 games using Too Fat Lardies "If the Lord Spares Us" rules. They work really well using 10mm figures.
Anyway, enjoy the forum and if your ever over in en zed I'm sure we can find a battallion or two for you to command if you have time for a game.
Cheers
Peter
There you go, Nick!
Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Sums up this forum in a nut-shell.
Please now tell us that you're actually only interested in the Italian Front, 1916.
A very warm welcome to the forum, Nick. :-h
Cheers - Phil
Welcome to the forum Nick. I am sure you will find a wealth of useful information, a bunch of great people who are always helpfull and definately some of us that are slightly insane. ;D ;D
Thanks Peter, looks like I have to jump on the next flight over the pond... ;D
The Middle East range is the one I'm looking at starting with actually, really admire Paul's and your own work with that.

I might have to disappoint: as any good Anzac knows, the only fronts were the ones fought by the blokes down under!

Well Paul can take 99% the credit for the Middle Eastern stuff that we do....We started out with France 1914 stuff and I got Paul some 1917 Middle Eastern figures to pay for his painting up all the 1914 stuff for me.
I've run a couple of good "Alternative ANZAC" games set on Gallipoli which you can find somewhere in the Batreps thread.
Hello and welcome Nick!
Welcome to the forum
Another welcome from the Northern Hemisphere from me.
Hi Nick, you are very welcome here! And you appear to have had a calming effect on fsn who is called Nobby.

Nobby, Australia is slightly bigger than Runcorn ;)
I would ask for pictures, but I've got a 1939 Polish thing going at the moment, and don't want to get distracted.

really well known by the people who know him.

Do you, perhaps, have an American cousin?
Hello Nick
G'day back at you from another Aussie.
Lots of fun to be had with WW1 Middle East, especially when you work out that you can use the troops for East Africa and Interwar dustups as well. Before you know it you'll be looking to add some Rugga Rugga, Afghan tribesmen, dastardly Russians and sundry other additions as well. :D :D
Not to mention wondering where you can get a Bristol Bulldog fighter for air support :D.
Have fun and don't feel bashful about asking for any help, the worst that can happen is you'll have to wipe the dribble off your sleeve from our less controlled members.
Cheers

Hi Nick
Welcome to the madhouse
Evnin - I'm taking account of the time difference.
IanS
And it's a good evening from me as well. WWI Middle East is one of my back burner projects, i.e. currently I have unopened packs of figures which are gradually being added to. Next show it will be Allied and Turkish artillery. Started gaming WWI again a couple of years back after a 40 year hiatus.
PS Do you know my Uncle Roy? He's about 85 and he lives in Grafton.
Ah yes, the wargamer's syndrome I have heard so much about... Hopefully my poverty is enough of an incentive to get me painting!
Unfortunately, I live about one Great Britain away from Grafton ;D

Unless its FSN and you have mentioned Centurion Tanks then it might be substantially worse.
Which reminds me, haven't I been promised a Centurion ARV? =P~

Phwoar! Don't it make you just want to ... ? Well I am!
Nobby - we will do ANYTHING to keep you quiet. Unfortunately it usually don't work.
IanS ;)
Anything? Hmmm ... well some Korean War infantry would be a good start.
Point proven.
