So......
The computer was supposedly repaired this afternoon....(Yes...on a bank holiday :o)
Matey puts it back to Windows 8....." That'll sort things out....You won't have lost anything".
Well, I CAN download photo's from both cameras now.....+1 to Phil (A very small mercy.)
Unfortunately...
1) Firefox and the Google search don't really play nicely together anymore...(Had to go round the houses to get here).
2) Every single one of my saved e'mails has fekked off into the ether......along with
3) EVERY single contact.......Which means many of your good selves will probably get slung into the spam bin if you mail me at the moment.
4) The Mail app needs sorting out......again
I give up !
See you when ever.
Phil! Phil! Snap out of it!
Photographs? Have you still got the one with ***** and the sheep?
[I really need to know because I've deleted my copy and me and the missus had planned to go to Sorrento this year .....]
You just photoshopped my face there!
Phil - before you do anything to ANY computer back your stuff up to another device or cloud storage (dropbox, one drive et al).
IanS
Well I can send you back the e-mail you sent me promising Korean war infantry, modern infantry, and chariot armies and Byzantines in 2016.
Want to see the original date stamp on that one, after all I could do the same for the Duck Billed knights and Wombles with AK's.
IanS
That will go straight in his SPAM folder...

The irony is, Ian.......
I got Matey to bring round a new 1Tb external hard drive yesterday......But that's still in its box, waiting for me to connect it.......Should have asked him to plug that in and get it running before doing anything else. X_X X_X X_X X_X
Although there were umpteen 'mails in the sent items and inbox (I keep
a lot of stuff for ages before deleting it) I don't think there was anything
absolutely critical.
There was one, I'll have to get resent.....But that's all I can think of.
I had a look at orange webmail, this morning...Thinking I might glean some info from that......But no......I cleared most of that out last week...(Of course I did)..Pants !
What I find so strange is that there were a handful of mails still in the deleted folder of 'Live Mail'......Why didn't those get wiped ?
Been having a play this morning, and I think I can get Firefox & Google to play nicely, as they did before.....I assume the PC's just returned them to their default settings and I need to go and check and uncheck a few boxes. (Which probably means I'll b*gger something else up.)
Sorry to keep whingeing.....Computers have the capacity to wind me up like a very cheap alarm clock.
Anyone who's got my personal addy...Please feel free to 'drop me a line'.
The only things that are coming through at the mo', are lots of spambots trying to join our esteemed company.
Cheers - Phil

I'll scribble those instructions out, then see if I can find the equivalent 'tutorial' on Youtube, as well...(So I can see some pretty pictures)....Otherwise, knowing me, I'll get totally lost. :-[

When I asked the chap...."Am I the only one, who's having problems with 10, and that you've had to help to fix the problem , "........He laughed, and said "Ohhhhhh....No."
Someone told me 'certain computers' previously running 8, have been susceptible to having problems when they change to 10.
A somewhat nothingy statement. =)
The annoying thing was that once we'd managed to 'sync' the hotmail addys.....10 appeared to work pretty well, and looked as though it just need a bit of familiarity/experience.....Then it went pants for 'no apparent reason'.

I THINK I've done it right....Tho' in the end it seemed far too simple. (Let's face it...If yours truly managed it.....It MUST have been simple.)
Now to wait 'til Thursday night, Friday morning to see if I was successful.
At least, if they keep trying to upgrade me after this.....I should be able to keep it at bay every few days......(Until it stops being free...July ??)..............IF I've done it right. :-SS
(To be honest....I haven't got a
clue what I've just done....Apart from uninstalling a specific update.)

Wish me luck, Gang !
We'll see if Windows 10 tries to download late tonight...Or as soon as I switch on tomorrow morning. (Depending on what time the better half switches the PC off this evening.)
Cheers - Worried of Wales.
Fellow members of the forum. Our esteemed colleague, Techno, is going to update his computer to Windows 10 tonight.
31st March. Running into ... April 1st.
This is a golden opportunity, could we but unite to seize it.
So how about tomorrow, we all pretend that Techno's text is appearing in Cyrillic? Either that or rebuke him for foul language in all his posts ... or all send him a PM asking him why he send us a PM ... or just pretend that his posts can't be seen ... or the next person just re-writes Techno's posts as if they had written it or ... well, so many opportunities.
Nobby.
The irony of the date hasn't been lost on me.
For the past few days I've wondered if I'm the recipient of a mega global spoof, set up by Microsoft.
Not that I'm paranoid...Or into conspiracies in any way.....Much.

Well Huzzah, Blackadder. :)
The 'puter has been switched on for 20 minutes this morning and I'm still on '8'.....
Thanks again Grumps (LOTS) for that link !
If it tries again, at least I'm now confident that I can stop it.
Fingers firmly crossed that it's not trying to lull me into a false sense of security !

Before you do anything, and I think this point may have been made, make a backup.
It's also worth creating a bootable disk in case it all goes belly up.
I'll update the external drive before I have a play, Nobby ! ;)
Good reminder, though. :)
Cheers - Phil
Good old Microsoft.
They haven't given up yet.
Dozens and dozens of updates just come through as Mrs T shut the PC down............So I wound it back up and went and had a look to see if my favourite update.... (Compulsory countdown to Windows 10 upgrade)..... had been reinstalled.
Buried along with all the others was KB3035583.......again.
It's not there any more...... :d :d :d :d :d :d :d :d
Cheers - Phil
Set your updates to manual and do not update the Windows 10 one.
I'll leave it on auto, Jim.......Now I know which is the update to knock out when I spot it. ;)
I WAS expecting to have to uninstall KB3035583 almost every day...Or, at least once a week.....But it's been a fortnight since the last time....And it now takes me less than a minute to get to the update and get it to 'go away'.
Cheers - Phil

In an F'ing nutshell he F'ing doesn't like F'ing Windows 10 and that is the F'ing truth!
So basically he agrees with Techno.
He gets even madder than I did. X_X
(He presumably didn't know which update to keep kicking off his PC.)
I shall go and have another check NOW..... :d :d :d :d
I assume when it's no longer a free upgrade, (when does it stop being free ?)...They'll stop trying. (I hope)
Cheers - Phil
It'll step being a free upgrade when your present operating system has the plug very firmly pulled on it.
My laptop at home occasionally has the 'Schedule your Free Upgrade' window appear but I just keep closing it. I'm hoping that ignoring it completely will get me past the 'free' date cutoff and then they'll stop forcing it on me.
Just keep an eye on installed updates, Leon.
I get to those through 'Control Panel'....Check on programs and features.....Tapping on 'View installed updates'......Then look for update KB 3035583.
If it's there, it'll probably be near the top of the list, date wise. (This is assuming that you've never seen the chilling words "We're going to update you to Windows 10 in 'X' hours/days....do you want to reschedule ?"......The first time when that happened for me. I could delay it by around a week.....Now, if I don't spot it early, there's a countdown of about an hour.
Simply check KB 3035583....That should give an option to 'uninstall'.....Click that, and it takes a minute or two to remove it.......Until the next time you get more updates coming through when you shut down the PC.....That's my definite cue to go and look for the sodding thing again. ;)......And uninstall it once more.
Cheers - Phil
kept avoiding the scheduled updates but it crept up and hit me while otherwise distracted. I awoke to a not too unhappy place (ie it seems ok to me)
The first time it downloaded, Matt.......It worked really nicely for a week......Then went absolutely pants. Which is why I paid an IT bod to come round and put it back to '8'.
It seems to work well on some PCs....and on others....... X_X
I'm afraid I take the view of 'Once bitten, twice shy', which is why I'm avoiding it like the plague.
Hope you don't have probs !

Nope, just a rather old PC... :D
Aha !
Another update to do with Windows 10 has appeared.....That one can 'bewgar' off too. :P ;)
Now.......On a very slightly different tack.
I'm pretty sure Guy put in a post about 'Onedrive' in another topic, and how those awfully nice people at Microsoft were going to make that a 'pay for it, if you want it facility.'
That seems to be right.
Pretty sure it was a genuine mail that came from Microsoft....It didn't ask me to do anything, and there weren't any attachments......It just informed me that the limit for storage on Onedrive was being lowered from 15Gb to 5Gb...But as I hadn't exceeded 5Gb......I didn't need to do anything.
Anyone else got that one ?
I'm going to follow Mike's lead and get a second external hard drive, as well.
Then I can alternate their use, and hopefully never lose more than a few day's info.
(Where's the Argos catalogue ? ;))
Cheers - Phil
Yes I had that one a while back. Of no interest as I'm using dropbox.
IanS
Ta, Ian ! :)

I got the 15 down to 5 two or three weeks ago - the one where they said basically that they must have be crazy to think they could offer 15GB storage for free. Like you I was under the five limit and will keep it that way. I suspect that Win10 will end up with a small monthly fee at some point.
Still, I like OneDrive for the ease of file sharing across platforms.

KB 3035583 plus KB 3150513 uninstalled this morning.

Like I said, above, I expect they'll extend the 'free period' after the end of July.....and keep going for AGES. :'( :'( :'( :'(
I believe there's a way to stop it completely...But that involves doing something on the PC I'm not absolutely sure about. :-SS :-SS :-SS :-SS :-SS
(And they'll probably bypass that anyway.)
Cheers - Phil
You are probably right - the "free" date is a moving target. I haven't followed this real closely but I think there will multiple "attack" paths to force the move to Win10. I think the business model is to continue to become more and more annoying until there is only Win10 - then exact a recurring charge. The typical user won't care as long as Facebook and x-box work. Holdouts will have to spend more and more time and energy until resistance truly becomes futile. Then one OS release to rule them all and in the darkness bind them. Consider around 1.5 billion users each paying 1£ a month(for openers) - awsome. This will help the move toward no more hard currency also.

You do realise, Techno, that there isn't some minion at Microsoft sending these updates to your PC? It is a cold, heard, heartless, relentless machine. It doesn't give up, it never gets tired, never gets distracted. It never sleeps and never has to take a tea break. You will be assimilated ... resistance if futile ...
Yes, but it is written by Microsoft so will crash before too long.
I do 'know' of a way to stop it being installed now......Until Microsoft do some sort of patch. X_X
I do apologise for keeping on about this.....You lot must be as sick of hearing about it, as I am of dealing with it.

Tried for 3 days but download just did not come through! LOL!
Maybe John Connor got there in time! ;)
:o
Unbelievable. X_X
I DIDN'T want it.....But ended up with it.
Got rid of it, with the help of an IT bod..(Which cost)...And since then have been almost constantly pestered with the 'relevant' updates, coming through at an average of twice a week.
At least the modification to the auto update I did yesterday, allows me to see what they try to download, and I can refuse them, instead of having to keep uninstalling the damn things.
I refused a load, this morning. :P (I wish that was a ruder symbol) to MS.
