Title: Time flies.
Post by: Steeleye on 19 March 2016, 09:49:36 AM
The other day I was sitting painting my new Pendraken Goblins (and very nice figures they are too) when a tho9ught suddenly hit me...I've got maybe ten more years before my eyes are totally shot and my hands shake too much that I'll have to stop painting.

So...

When are those Fantasy Amazons going to be remodeled? I'd hate to die before you get around to doing anything about them.

I'm only in my mid-30s and I've been having those same thoughts. How long before I can't paint any more.
By that time we'll probably all have personal robots to do all our painting for us, anyway.

Because of that I have reduced the amount of unpainted  figures I have bought last year drastically.

I find painting so relaxing that I dread the day that will come.

We can always switch to 54's!  ;D

I aim to have everything painted by the time i retire, that way i have time to play with my toys  :D

I've just turned sixty and can still paint okay with the aid of glasses, just not for as long as I used to able to.

I will be 66 in a few weeks time. I had always worn varifocals at work which increased in strength as I grew older.

I retired when I was 59 and the first thing I did was to have my eyesight laser corrected. I now have perfect 20:20 distance vision.

I need to wear standard reading glasses (3.5) to paint and I can paint fairly well.

I plan on painting for a good few years yet.

I'm either painting too slowly or buying too rapidly, take your pick, so my lead pile grows month by month.

I'm doubtful I'll ever get them all painted. But I enjoy planning projects and pottering about painting things so have no plans to change my habits. At coming up 63, I reckon I'm too old a dog.

I plan to be buried with my unpainted armies arrayed around me like the Qin Emperor, just to confuse future archaeologists :)

Don't forget.....You can always treat yourself to an Optivisor.

I genuinely couldn't do without mine.

Like Mike, I'm fast approaching 63......Give or take a few millennia.

If so, go for it, Steeleye. As the saying goes, "Make hay while the sun shines." I'm now 62 and have had to wear glasses for about 50 years of my life. In the last 5 years or so, I have had to take my glasses off and hunch up close to the figure to see better to paint. Nowadays, when I paint, to see things better, I unconsciously try to take off my glasses ......... which, of course, ain't there! :(

But there's this guy called, "Techno," who keeps trying to sell me an ... "optivisor"... but who knows ... maybe he's on to something   ;)

I got the Rolson version of the optivisor cheap on t'internet, don't know why I didn't do that 50 years ago ... though there being no internet might have something to do with it!

I should be on a commission from them. ;D

But for those of you who have started to struggle a bit on close focusing....I'd be fairly staggered if you didn't think, "Why didn't I get one of these earlier !"
I think Mike sums it up, nicely.

Cheers - Phil

I've used one for years (being 68) and couldn't paint without one.

I thought it was a bit of gimmick - until I tried one.  Don't paint without it now - It even comes on holiday.

Never mind your Optivisors. The subject line had me picturing Techno with a stopwatch and drosophila.

I'm the opposite, had one for years but never had to paint with it.

It prefers a villa with a private pool, and some shade.   I hope to never need it on the beach as my eyes ae still up to subtly viewing ladies assets from behind dark glasses

This is one reason I'm off loading stuff to (hopefully) leave a manageable lead mountain for me, given my very slow rate of painting.

You should worry.  :P

I don't know how many kilos of 'spares' Leon's sent me while I'm doing/converting the Warband armies.
As i won't get any time to actually paint anything for the next couple of years.....And as there are two forum members who just might get to Techno Towers during the Summer Hols, this year, I'm going to have to ask Leon....."Can I give some of these spares to Messrs X & Y , if they DO come and see me ?"

(I'm not posting them back !  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D)

Cheers - Phil  ;)
