Unashamedly here for the competition - but I think I'll be hanging around.
I into VBCW (and a million other things), but this is a fun project, especially as I'm exporting the war to the Med islands, where the heat makes for quicker tempers and battle-stopping temperatures.
Welcome, its great that you have come for the painting comp, and even better that you want to stay around!
VBCW in the Med sounds fun. :)
Welcome :-h
Looking forward to seeing your entries and hearing more about wargaming in Malta
Very nice tank :)
Welcome van. Nice tank 8)
Thanks for the warm welcome.
My version of VBCW is a bit over-tanked, I guess - but the troops are on the way, so...
My approach is a bit haphazard, and so far I have a Yorkist tank, an Anglican one and a pair which could, at a pinch, be Albertine-Yorkist too. If I manage to keep on these lines and reinforce the sole and very obsolete Anglican beastie I may be onto something.
Why Prince Albert should send a force all the way to the Med is a bit of a mystery, of course....
Hello and welcome! 8)
Welcome to the forum, Vanvlak.
Cheers - Phil
VBCW in the Med has all sorts of intervention options - most of which are far more plausible than direct interventions in the UK! You've got Italians, French in North Africa, French, Spanish, all sorts of kit should be available in the SCW ranges.
Tank heavy is good!

Why, Malta is very important as a naval base to secure communication to India and the Dominions. Remember trade is vital. Also this lets you use all those naval figures :D.

German East African Sailors GEA4
You could also proxy in some WW1 Middle East Imperial infantry as sailors with Wolsleys:-

Of course the best thing with naval figures is that they are so generic - change the flag and you change the nationality :D.
Cheers and welcome again.

Welcome, Sir.
Please tarry after the paint competition. The on line awards party is ... well extraordinary.
Welcome to the forum. I think if I was from Malta I would have chosen Falcon as my moniker. :)

Heh - I've been using 'Vanvlak' for around a decade in different fora, now, and it stuck. It's a slight mis-spelling of the surname of an author of a materials engineering textbook (Van Vlack) - and that's a very long story.
Thanks for the many welcomes - and the party invitation (will there be Guinness?).
@GrumpyOldMan - that's true, and a bundle of sailors would make for some varierty. Some more potential damage to my wallet, and a sudden urge to model a surviving X Lighter 127, now sunk next to Manoel Island...
I have often found that sailors make for variety........hello? ???

What's all the fuss about, you don't paint this camo you go and resize some brick paper and stick it on!
Oh, and a hale and hearty wotcha from me as well.

Ah yes, the end of that sentence did drop off... :-\
"...by providing an entirely different range of uniform colours to paint on 10mm scale models, to potentially striking effect." :D

I'm rubbish at wallpapering I'm afraid.

Going from the plans here http://xlighter.org/ (http://xlighter.org/) it looks like the scratchbuilding of the lighter shouldn't be too difficult.
If you're making any ships/boats handy things are:-
BR130 Oerlikon 20mm cannon + naval crew (crew in duffle coats and helmets, could be replaced)
A22 .50cal AA MG with crew (American crew but could be replaced with others)
Cheers
