Game two in the zombie campaign.
"This has been a weird couple of days" said lieutenant Rexler to himself.
The leader of the swat team got out of the car and immediately flipped the safety off his weapon.
"Higgins, provide cover from behind that car back there, Jones, perkins, stay sharp and watch that door!"
He and his team had been involved in various incidents the last 48 hours, from domestic violence gone out of control, to the local doomsayer shooting all around town square shouting 'Repent sinners, the day has come'. They have put down dozens of people seemingly insane. An empty look in their eyes. Some claim it's a disease spreading, some say it's youths brainwashed by their smartphones, some say it's drugs, and the regular loonies claim it's aliens again.
Matter of fact is,nobody knows what's going on. Rexler has seen seemingly Dead men rise again, and others refusing to die. Yesterday he emptied an entire clip into someone's abdomen, and he just kept walking.
This was your worst nightmare.
He was almost happy to have this call, a silent alarm at a small bank. Just your regular robbery, he thought, something normal.
Rexler and his team stood there waiting, watching the door. There were only four of them, police forces stretched thin in these days, so they are all that can be spared.
Suddenly the door swung open, eerily slow. A man got through the door, dressed in a security guard uniform. It stood in front of the building, an empty look in its eyes. Behind him two others slowly came out.Rexler shouted the order to halt and show their hands. They let out a low growl, and lunged forward.
Here we go again, said rexler and ordered his men to fire.
forces: Swat: lieutenant rexler (smg;pistol), officers jones and perkins (smg, pistol) and Higgins (Swat sniper with hunting rifle and pistol)
zombies: 18 regular Z'S and two fast zombie dogs
objectives:
Zombies: eat swat team
Swat team : survive and dispose of all zombies.

Groups of zeds spread over the board:

Higgins manages a headshot on his first shot of the game. The rest of the team can't stop the zeds from making it to their line

Attacked by th dogs from behind, the team are forced to abandon their position, but the zombies follow up.

Luckily perkins can swiftly despatch the zombies in melee, while higgins puts down a dog before being rushed by the other one.

But the team's position is compromised.

and another

And one more when they pass the corner

They tighten their firing line and start putting the hurt on the zombies

The zombies keep going, riddled with bulletholes.

But the heavy fire is taking its toll
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03580_zpspsa7ba0r.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03580_zpspsa7ba0r.jpg.html)

And soon the last ones fell to the ground, lifeless (again)

Another great game! As suspected the Swat team was better at handling the situation as their fellow officers in last battle. The only time they really got in trouble was when the dogs got the jump on them, forcing them to redeploy instead of pouring fire into the Z's. Luckily for the sniper, the dog missed it's attack so no damage was taken. I'm thinking that they wil be a real threath when i have the full pack of 10 dogs painted and on the table!!
Can zombies hear? I'd have though the auditory system of the walking and decomposing dead would break down very rapidly.

Nice report!

For me, in a world without magic walking dead zombies make no sense whatever! So worrying about ANY facet of real-world biology is surely kind of, umm, pointless?! :-\
;)

Nice report though :-bd
Completely deaf folk can 'feel' vibrations.....Perhaps that's how it works ?
Does it matter ? ;)

Lets just say they smell your brains and stop there.
Half the forum is safe though!

I see zombies every time i have an early shift, don't see any magicians around though!
My query was prompted by the reference to a zombie response to the sound of firearms.
Yes, the rules for the sounds of gunshots are used straigth from the ruleset, didn't come up with it myself!
I'm sure the rule-writer was a more learned annecrologist than I am.
What minis & scenery are those? I'm still looking for some good minis for the 'Riot!' rules... unarmed but beligerent civilians & police, preferably in 10mm. Those look good.
Best way to deal with a zombie is to kick it to death, that way no more are attracted by the gun fire.
Works in wargaming too.

The mini's are Pendraken......The 'cops' are the sci-fi marines (if I'm not mistaken)....And the zombies certainly look like the 'ones wot I dun.'
Buildings I can't help you with...But I'm sure Peter will be along soon, to tell you. ;)

So as Phil said:
swat officers are sci fi marines : http://www.pendraken.co.uk/SFH2-p6735/
swat sniper is a russian scout sniper: http://www.pendraken.co.uk/SV27-p4550/
zombies are the ones Phil made: http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Sci-Fi-c24/Zombies-sc294/
I'm still painting the survivors, but they are also in the pendraken catalogue: http://www.pendraken.co.uk/SFZ6-p6768/
AS are the cars i use: http://www.pendraken.co.uk/SFZ7-p7068/
There are also the civilians from the ww 2 range (i have some on the painting table too):
http://www.pendraken.co.uk/BR169-p6543/
If you like, there are also some british police officers in the range (i won't use them, they wouldn't fit in with the other cops):
http://www.pendraken.co.uk/BR168-p6542/
i also have regular cops as seen here:
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03530_zpsjhroifpp.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03530_zpsjhroifpp.jpg.html)
Wich are spanish civil war models from pendraken:
i used code 33 and 35 from these
http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Inter-War-c18/SCW-Guardia-de-Asalto-sc192/
And i forgot to say, scenery is from hawk wargames. Came out of the starter box of dropzone commander, but you can buy it separate:
http://www.hawkwargames.com/collections/card-scenery
They are out of stock right now, but you can probably still find them with resellers or on ebay. Really easy to make, just unfold and fix the roof and your ready!
Thanks for a comprehensive list! One day I hope Pendraken will produce Riot Cops...
The DZC stuff I keep meaning to get - mostly for Heavy gear.

Yeah, but the only way to be sure they're *walking dead* is an experiment! :-B
Take 90 randomly selected zombies - you can never have too much replication - and place them into identical chambers.
Shoot 30 in the head; 30 in the leg and leave 30 alone for your control group.
Into 10 each of the three treatments introduce: a fresh human brain; a cauliflower; a cup of coffee...
Monitor the chambers for, say, 24 hours :!! and compare results with those expected from the null hypothesis :-/
Of course, the tricky bit is getting the funding - can't really see a problem with an ethics committee!! ;)
Cheers!

Unfortunately the pictures are no longer there, but a few years ago Republic of Tolworth used the old fantasy zombies and assorted other figures for a riot game: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,3105.0.html (http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,3105.0.html)

Hello D255.
I was going to use some of the stone throwers. However the urge came over me fairly quicly so I used what was at hand for the first wave of proof of concept. Which in this case was 25 spare zombies found lying around
They look okay.
As for riot police. I have used the Vietnam US troops with a little trimming and paint job. Add a riot shield made from clear plastic from a hole punch for the smaller 'snatch' shields and rectangle for the larger shields.
Riot guns/gas launchers I used the US blooper troopers.
Gun crew and the Russian commisar help fill in a few other positions.
Will wrestle with technology later for pics.
Hope that helps.
Whislt he's not posted in a long while, maybe if you PM him he can share his pictures.
Cheers!

Yeah i found that post when i was browsing for ideas
I'll think about it a bit.
In the meantime, i got some work to do:
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03584_zpsobuggu7f.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03584_zpsobuggu7f.jpg.html)
Except for 9 dogs, everything shown are survivors or army. After that about 40 zombies left to paint. i'm starting to think this project will drag on longer than i expected ;D
But after that, only about 60 acw infantry and 40 ww2 infantry to paint up, and i will have finished every pendraken model i have (excluding a few spare minis)
Just great!
nice game
Thanks!
