Title: Tank guns
Post by: Sunray on 13 February 2016, 01:23:46 PM
The FV101 Scorpion turret is an innovative piece of sculpting as it allows a selection of gun.

Can we please have a selection of tank guns that would allow a lot of simple conversions especially post war ?

I am thinking of the 90mm Cockerill  that some nations have added to the Scorpion (Indonesia ?), and the Norwegian's who rebooted their M24s with a 90mm D-925 gun - the NM-116 was the final version.

A long barrelled 6pdr would also be useful.

Did you know...?

The 75mm gun turret on the Scorpion suffered from cracked gun mantles, which was why they were all later replaced with turrets off Fox armoured cars which mounted the Radan 30mm auto-canon?

On the ranges the Scorpion invariably had its turret traversed to the rear when firing to help soak up the recoil of the 75mm.

Sorry to dash all your hopes the Scorpion 76mm Gun could fire at any angle I know I was a gunner on one and also fired the last ever 76mm round with ACE Mobile in Norway in 1992 march I never heard of or saw a cracked mantlet sorry I had a very nasty recoil and it would bloody well hurt if the gunner did not keep head into his sight when firing

Ah-ha, this was in 1974, so its quite possible that they fixed the problem. I was never crew on Scorpion on Scimitar, but I was told this story by a buddy in our CVRT troop when I was stationed at Lulworth.
