So on the oldhammer facebook page somebody posted a pic of this fellow:
(https://scontent-fra3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xlf1/v/t1.0-9/12717471_10156538951665301_7482935384033200818_n.jpg?oh=7337228a41c6e9608e0e2e382be927c2&oe=576596D5)
It is an alternative armies model and the guys over there were discussing it's "proportions"
And then someone said:"Phil Lewis sculpt I think."
So just curious Phil, is it yours?
All the scar tissue suggests it may be a self-portrait. ;)

I thought so too, but he still has all his fingers...
Managed to rub chilli in my own eye tonight, can I claim that as "doing a techno?"?
Once tried to make love after cooking Indian food, with too little attention to washing hands. It was funny a week later.

Had a similar issue with kebab and chilli sauce, she was not happy

I
think it is, Peter......(Though I don't remember it looking
quite like that.)
The story...
I made a figure while I was at GW (that never went on general release) that got called a 'spider troll'. (Don't ask.)......Think those go for silly money if they come up, as there were only a dozen or so cast.)
I took a copy of the 'spider troll to show Mac (the originator of Alternative Armies)....He liked it and said "Make me one of those....We can't use the original, as that really belongs to GW"
It would have been the very first model I ever made commercially.
Thinking about how truly awful some of the early figures I made were.....It probably
is mine. :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
Cheers - Phil
Ok, thanks for the info, shared your story with the guys on the oldhammer topic.
I found a piccie online wich shows it in a unit, looks good to me when surrounded by its kin.

This one didn't go for silly money though ;D ;D

That's the Alternative Armies one, I'm pretty sure, Peter....I'm surprised it went for that much ! ;D ;D ;D
The GW one has more of a goblinoid face.....and I'm pretty certain it doesn't have any hair.
Cheers - Phil
I've got the 2 blue ones on the end. Marauder miniatures I think
Yes i know it's the AA one, i can't even find a picture of that spider troll, let alone one for sale!

Matey on the right, I'd completely forgotten about.....Well, it WAS over a quarter of a century ago.
Special....NO......Trying to learn how to push putty about.....Yes !! ;D ;D ;D

Well, it is what a troll should look like!
They aren't supposed to win a beauty pageant!
I really like that "spider troll"!
So one of the guys on the oldhammer page is not convinced it's your sculpt, but says it's very much alike.
This one has your name on it on the collecting citadel miniatures page, stating it was unreleased 'the same one from Oldenbua's post):
Still very similar to the one i asked about:
(https://scontent-ams3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xlf1/v/t1.0-9/12717471_10156538951665301_7482935384033200818_n.jpg?oh=7337228a41c6e9608e0e2e382be927c2&oe=576596D5)
Soooooo did you do both of those?
Top one....definitely made while I was at GW, Peter.....I used to have all the masters....(Now given away or sold.)
Bottom one.....99.9% certain that was the first figure I made for Alternative Armies. (And therefore my first 'commercial' figure.)..... X_X
Cheers - Phil
Thanks phil!
Still think they look good in a unit!
Hmmmm. :-\
Cheers - Phil
I love some of those really odd ones with random hook/claw/spiky appendages all over them.
I liked making that sort of thing to start with......Basically because I didn't have to worry about making the figure 'symmetrical'.
When I was starting out on 25-30mm figures, I found it quite difficult to make two arms and two legs that looked 'right', and appeared to belong to the same figure.
One arm, or leg, would always look noticeably shorter or longer than the other and need re-doing. X_X
Doing 'chaotic' figures......You didn't have to worry about that sort of thing....... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Cheers - Phil
=O =O =O
Opinions are divided about this one at the oldhammer page, some people hate it, and some people like it. It's about 50-50.
I think you have to look at at the time it was made. You can't compare it to a 3D sculpted model from today. Some people forget that.
Add my vote to the 'hate' section, Peter ! :D
Cheers - Phil

No need to hate Phil! Everybody's got to start somewhere! I bet my first attempts will come out much worse!
