Hi all, I just got into ww 1 wargaming in November, I really like pendragon figures. I have a lot of American civil war troops for both sides. Also a bunch of ww2 troops and vehicles, but my ww1 and ww2 soldiers are not all painted up yet, gotta get busy, Rifleman65.

I wish I had you to talk to
Come on, get painting rifleman.
Welcome. I've been to the windy city twice which is not far from you. Not bad for a Scotsman.
Hello and welcome.
Hi Rifleman and welcome to the forum.
With figures bought 30 years ago still unpainted I am in no position to comment on your rate of painting :)
Welcome Rifleman :-h
You will find that piles or mountains of unpainted lead are fairly common amongst forum members ;)
What rules are you using for WW1?
A very warm welcome to the madhouse forum, Rifleman. :-h
You won't meet a friendlier, more knowledgeable and eccentric bunch of folk anywhere on the electronic ether.
Cheers - Phil
Welcome on board :)
What Ho, Mr 65!
Your initial post tantalizingly leaves out all the juicy details. WWI is a big war. I assume you mean Western Front, 1916-18ish, but am I wrong? Do you in fact have hordes of red trousers cuirassiers and lance waving Uhland? Perhaps the Eastern front is your bag, or does Johnny Turk feature in your OOB?
ACW was the first war I gamed seriously. I like the simplicity you can bring of just infantry, cavalry, artillery - same capability on both sides. I know that you can get deeper into it and differentiate between types of cannon etc, but for me ACW is the perfect war to introduce wargaming.
Anyway welcome. Fill your boots! May I recommend the painting competition? I myself am entering, so you are guaranteed to be better than someone.
And if you have pictures, please share. (That's pictures of your prettily painted Pendraken purchases, not selfies, or photos of your dog. (Unless he's a really cute dog, in which case share away.))
Welcome
Are you from Eerie?
Hi Fenton, no I'm from a town called portage, it's a steel mill town on Lake Michigan, northwest corner of the state. I can't find any rules on ww1 I like so use my own set. I like the west front best but plan to also branch out to Gallipoli, east front, and maybe Africa to. I game dark ages, war of the roses, clontarf, French and Indian war, war of 1812, And the crusades. All in 25-28.mm. I game ww2 in 1/285, 10 mm, 15 mm and 25-28 mm. Ww2 is mostly northwest Europe but I have east front, Italians, and Japanese also. I have a pretty big miniatures collection. My game table is 5 feet wide by 16 feet long, and I have 2 , 4 by 8 foot tables that can be put anywhere against the main table to make the table bigger. Rifleman65
16'! Blimey. I have table envy.

'struth!
Although we may run a tad heavy on the eccentric - which only adds to the charm!
Glad you introduced yourself and welcome!
Welcome R65 - WWI Belgium 1914, Middle East 1917 and my last game was First Bull Run. You'll find plenty to keep you occupied here. Still got some Old Glory ACW from the late 80s to paint.
Thought we'd got rid of the da**d colonials in 1776. :'( ;)
Welcome

Put the right number of *'s in Ian. :P ;)

"Dated". Ian meant "dated".
Basically, America went past it's sell by date.
Or.......
Dazed....(And Confused.....Gratuitous Led Zep reference, there.) :D

It took till 1783 ;)
Greeting from another Hoosier! I'm in Ft. Wayne, but Mom lives in Portage.
We do WWII in 15mm, but I use Pendraken stuff for Field of Glory, Ancients and Renaissance.
Luckily for you, you're not too far from Valpo and Litko who makes nice accessories, bases and such.
Welcome!

It took a bit longer than that and required a lot of help from the French, Spanish, Dutch and others ;)
I almost forgot, I do Korean War 1950-53 in 20 mm also!
Hello R65
Please ignore Techno about us being ecentric. The man hath forked tongue ;)
You will soon get used to the teasing and "in jokes"
When I saw the title of your post I thought you were "Mr Jones of the Temple of Doom" Fame. In which case FSN would have been wanting a personal and private demonstration of the whip, but as you are not he will just have to put in a call to Miss Whiplash whose delectable services he enjoys so much.
P.S He has told me they are delectabe. I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE OF THE SAID LADYOR HER SERVICES ! ......I SAID " I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE OF THE SAID LADY OR HER SERVICES !"
(rustle of silk and crack of whip heard in background)

Yes - we did have a little bit of help - and it was a rather a long slog (if I use this word correctly) - and I will admit that the Mother Country was a bit distracted - still the way we tell the story..... :)

We gave away 13 costly colonies and gained enough of India to bank roll 200 years of empire. I call that a win for GB! :P

Just as well you don't have to write down the codeword, Orcs! :P
p.s. Welcome, Rifleman.
Yep, without the Jewel in the Crown we'd have been hard pressed to set up and run the National Health Service or change our national dish from the despicable boiled beef and carrots.

A very interesting way of looking at it ;)
I need to read more about some more 'Indian' history :-\
The Indians don't consider it a win however. We were fairly awful to them...
Especially when we said if you don't fancy living in that nice warm country you can come and live in this cold wet one.
And, amazingly, from India to Indiana :). It's sort of like playing the Glass Bead Game.

Obviously they thought it was a good deal though, as lots of them did
D guy, I have a ton of the plastic Imex figures, Chinese, North Koreans and u.s. Troops for Korea . My vehicles are air fix, revell, s & s models, and many others. Korea is special to me cause my dad fought there. From Inchon till the armistice. Rm65.
Welcome to the madhouse ;D
