Title: Now it's Sir Terry!
Post by: fsn on 31 January 2016, 09:04:44 AM
RiP Sir Terry Wogan. Passed away after a short battle with cancer.

He got me through so many early mornings.

Same here, Nobby.

I've missed him since he stopped doing the 'early show' on Radio 2.

Very sad news.  :(

Cheers - Phil

Literally just heard this. January 2016 has one last hurrah, the b***ard! El Tel started his breakfast show when I was still at school and I'm now 63. Shall feel a twinge now whenever Janet and John are mentioned or Hello Sailor. Farewell Tel.

Seems like 2016 is carrying on where 2015 left off. Sad news now another one has gone.

What a month! On top of all the celebrity deaths, close friends of mine have lost 3 family members (a father, brother and brother-in-law) plus we've all lost a well-liked acquaintance from our early lives. Now this unexpected news about Terry Wogan.

I have to admit I wasn't a great fan of his in his 'early' years on BBC and it took me a long time to warm to him (I think his over exposure on TV with his chat show, Wogan, on 3 times a week concurrent with his Blankety Blank show were the culprits).

Only really started to appreciate his talents when I worked in Stirling; like fsn, his radio show getting me through many a long commute in the mornings.  A real shame because, although he had 'retired,' I thought he would be around to entertain us for many years to come.  Very witty, funny and affable man of whom I now affectionately count myself as one his TOGs (Terry's Old Geezers).

On the subject of TOGs (I'm sure the man would like us to reflect on his life with a smile), jump to this link and scroll down to the cartoons.

Swathes being cut through the ranks of those not much older than myself and noticeably younger than my parents ... intimations of mortality :(

RIP El Tel

I remember him well from early mornings getting ready for school. A wonderful voice and will be sadly missed.
