Vapnartak is taking place on Sunday 7th February, at York Racecourse in York (unsurprisingly!). We'll need any pre-orders for this sending through to us before Sunday 31st January please, and more info on the show can be found on the York club website here: http://www.yorkwargames.org/Vapnartak.htm (http://www.yorkwargames.org/Vapnartak.htm)

Last call for York pre-orders please, get them in before midnight on Sunday night so that we've got enough time to get them ready for you.

Some more useful information for show-goers.
OAPs get into the show for free :-bd
I've just asked on Facebook, as they hadn't advertised that fact. It means my 'lift to the show' can come in and keep warm and not have to drop me off and then go elsewhere.
Great isn't it, but I'll pay for my younger mate as he's driving us there. The other old git can pay for his lunch.
York Show Meet.
When?
Where?
Who do I look out for?
My suggestions:
12 Noon. Or 1 o'Clock.
Pendraken Stall - then we step to one side.
I'll provide a photo of me [tall, ginger, 30s] so if people spot a group including me they know they've found us. I'll also wear a distinctive item of clothing.
Some members of the Westerhope group will be there, they've told me, so I need to let them know via their blog. There should also be a chap who's just moved to Middlesbrough there on the day.
[Westerhope put on games at Battleground. The other's connection being Middlesbrough.]
Let us know your thoughts - requirements - please
Sounds good to me, we're just near the bottom of the main stairs so there's usually a bit of space for standing...
Just look for a scruffy oik in a beanie hat that says "Volbeat" and you've found me ;D
I shall be in a suit with a red carnation in the lapel...ooops, wrong forum,.
I shall come to the Pendraken stand at 12 noon for a meet up but won't be able to meet up for too long as I will have a minibus full of pupils to look after.
More like a can of 'Carnation™' condensed milk! ;)
I will be there for most of the day if the show is up to its usual standards.
We are planning to rent a table to sell the surplus terrain from our club (Redcar Ironbeards) so hopefully I will be able to make the 12.00 appointment slot :) :)
Sounds good to me I'll be waering a black tee shirt with andy written on it and if its cold a black coat also with andy on it
Take care
Andy

Is that in case you:
- lose them
- forget your name
- can't be bothered introducing yourself
;) ;D
But is his name actually Andy? ;)
The white beard and smoking cap should be a bit of a giveaway.
Righto.
12:00 Noon it is.

To make it easier for us to meet up at the York show* - This is what I look like [I'm 6'3" so I'm easy to spot] and I shall be wearing this distinctive item of clothing [Sainsbury's sale of Xmas stock!].
Yes, I would have preferred a Stormtrooper top :'(
*Or, so you know who to avoid.

Oh dear. Never mind, I suppose you'll be well outnumbered by the usual crop of over-ripe Iron Maiden and Metallica T-shirt wearers.
Rotfl!
Hope all that are going have a great day. :)
(And the weather on the way, isn't too bad !........It's gone back to being absolutely VILE here in Pembs....Says Mr Nearly Got Blown Over again, while feeding those blanking sheep.)
Cheers - Mr Soggy and Windswept.
I must be in the minority Leman as my Iron Maiden tops are not rife. ;D ;D ;D
:D
and I thought that Star Wars shirt was a good idea ;D
I had to throw my Pink Floyd (The wall) T-shirt away last year.
It looked more like a black, string vest....and I was told to throw it away...It was over 30 years old. ;D ;D ;D
Cheers - A Sad G*t.

hi Jim,
The racecourse is YO23 1EX. I too was a bit surprised not to see it on the site, but this one should get you close enough!
Mollinary
Thanks for that.
It is a different bit strange that it's not there on the website. I'm sure it has in previous years.
Jim.

Hope the weather doesn't interfere with your plans, as yesterday was bl**dy awful here in Bristol and is forecast to be even worse come lunchtime for around 24 hours or so!
Sounds exactly the same as us in Pembrokeshire, Steve.
Absolutely vile yesterday..... (I slipped over feeding the sheep ....again)......(Potty mouth time !! >:( >:( >:()
Can actually see the sun at the mo'.......Waiting for the total crud to come back, this afto', though,
Deep joy. :'( :'( :'(

Saw Leon at the stand about 12:30. Probably walked passed everybody else around the show..... ;D
Nicely done Tawa; a band of us met at the stand at 12.00 for about 20 minutes. Great day out and some amazing games. Particularly impressed by the Alamo, the Red Army attacking muslim insurgents in the 1920s east Russia, the battle of Prestonpans and the Peter Pig Hammerin' Iron game.

The Alamo is the only one of those Old West books I'm missing..... :'(
I have just read James Donovan's take on "The Alamo" which I can recommend for a great read, with lots of background information on the characters involved on both sides, and the war post-Alamo. Thanks to the book I could see that the diorama had both Crocket and Travis in their correct places.
Really enjoyed the show today and also meeting up with several forum members.
Good to hear it went well :)

OK, I recognise Jim ... as, given how long we've known each other, I should ... anyone else willing to stand forth and be recognised?

Yes. Please provide a list of names.
Anyhoo, with Mrs W. and daughters having a girls weekend at Oxford (doctor daughter was doing a lecture/talk thingy at the Pitt Rivers Museum), I was overcome with a mad impulse to go and so made the long trip south but, as fortune would have it, missed just about everyone, arriving about 25 minutes too late for the noon rendez-vous. D'oh! Only in retrospect do I realise, I actually saw RoyW wandering about later! (D'oh, again). Also thought I might have at least seen Jim (after all, his photo is on on his blog) - but didn't (must've changed his hair style or saw me coming). However, had a good chat with Dave, met Leon who briefly intro'd Mollinary to me, and made my obligatory purchase at the Pendraken stand (just some bases this time).
This was my first visit to Vapartnak and although disappointed not to meet any more of the gang, it was a really enjoyable show nevertheless. Great to see a number of traders I don't normally see at the Scottish shows, including Peter Pig who relieved me of some cash at gun point for some more ACW reinforcements (well that's my story). Also, picked up a roads pack from S&A scenics who cunningly placed their stand opposite Pendraken's. Crazy thing was, I recognised a few other wargamers from other blogs, etc.(!), even unconsciously half-nodding to Charles Grant before realising, "Wait a minute! He doesn't know me!" Oh, saw Slimreidy's Dad, too (so probably saw Slimreidy also).
Anyway, had a good number of chats with various traders (again, at gun point) and fellow wargamers running games, particularly Ian(?) of South London Warlords, who IMO ran a very effective game of Simon Bolivar's victory at The Battle of Araure, 1813. Finally, finished off by having a long chat and coffee with a fellow Scot whom I met at the cafe (I'll have to stop picking up strange men) and who was 'on leave' from his wife who was shopping in York. If you're reading this, Alan, hope the rest of the weekend in York went well and you didn't get any grief from the missus over your booty!
btw, name tags don't work (or do they?). I scrounged a sticky label, wrote 'Westie' on it and stuck it on my shirt but no-one collared me (apart from said traders with guns). Oh! Hi, Ithoriel (only me and him logged on). What are you doing up at this time? Can't sleep either? Cheers!

I meant of the SHOW guys ;D ;D ;D
Jolly good lot of trade stands and nice to see the Pendraken crew.
Needed a full size recovery vehicle on the grass parking area, although enjoyed watching four wheel drive cars bogging in because the drivers didn't know how to engage 4WD.
Games being staged were not awfully memorable though, which I suppose drove us back to the trade stands where even more was spent.
A good day out though, for the venue is very light and the locals friendly.
It was a great show and I am the good looking chap kneeling down at the front ;D ;D ;D
Nice to meet up with you all and put a face to a name
Thanks everyone for popping along to the Meet.

Front Row: Leman. Skywalker. Bodvoc. Jim Duncan.

I also made it onto one of the official Vapnartak photos

The ginger-haired chap in the camo-Bundeswehr coat (to the right of Leon and the red rucksack).
I'd just picked up some 40mmx25mm bases, a Confederate army pack and was on my way to pick up some flags. Later on I bought some 6mm Baccus North American buildings so I can use them with the Pendraken ACW I have. [Only other stuff I bought was 28mm Cowboy stuff from Warbases and Great Escape and Foundry]
Just before the group photo was taken the Westerhope boys met myself and Jim, and made a statement about 10mm being too small to paint! The cheek of it ... I'll have to show them! ;)
That Star Wars shirt was under wraps - But be warned: I've bought more! And I'm not afraid to show them ;D (unlike
that one)
Car Parking: We arrived around 09:30 and parked on the road opposite the buildings. We got bogged down last year, so we didn't want the same to happen this.

Nope, I was gone by 1.15. Doing that lets me drive home most of the way in daylight. It is convenient and safer and also let me eyeball the goodies the same day I purchased them.

It is nice to put names to faces as opposed to just reading faceless posts all the time. Fortunately, as far as this forum is concerned my anonymity is pretty safe unless any of the northern posse get this far south.
But...
Roy, are you travelling to the wilds of Kent for the Cavalier show later this month? If so I will see you there.
Leman, Like me I see you adopt the follically challenged, 'solar panel for a sex god' look that is so prevalent at the moment. :) :)
That or the comb-over. :-q I know which I prefer.

The trouble is you might use less shampoo but that is offset by the increased use of Mr. Sheen!
Why do you think I wear a duster!
We had an excellent show this year, the best Vapnartak we've ever had. It was good to see the Forum guys meet-up as well, although I was too busy to get over and chat myself. I managed to speak to most folks individually at some point though.

I'm afraid not. Although, if I ever did I do know of a number of gamers in that area so I would no doubt receive a warm welcome (and possibly a game or two).
