Title: Osprey - Pacific War 1879-83
Post by: Leman on 20 January 2016, 11:34:12 AM
Just arrived, so had a quick look through. In some ways this is a typical Osprey book, i.e. brief history (including 3 maps, one of which is a detailed battle map of Chorillo/Miraflores), organisation of the armies, 8 colour plates, contemporary art and photos. The main difference with other Ospreys I have come across is that the army section includes specially commissioned line drawings of figures in uniform to complement the colour plates. This is a useful addition for those interested in wargaming this war, especially as Pendraken has a range dedicated to it. It also complements the beautiful book published by Caliver.

Chorrillos & Miraflores is an interesting battle to wargame: naval gunfire support, an armed train, machineguns, minefields, and contrasting armies. There's a nice scenario for it in the BBB Yahoo group files.

Leman, thanks for the comments - I bough the Caliver published book a while back but based on what you have written I will dive in and get the Osprey as well.  There is also this one on the Royal Navy and the Pacific War available from Naval & Military Press:

It seems to be based on the dairies and sketches of a serving naval officer.
