Hard to believe that Bafta award winner, Alan Rickman, has also passed away. A really good British actor and a great loss to the movie and stage business. Same age as Bowie. Sad to know we won't see him on stage again or any new movies. I'll fondly remember him most for his performances in Harry Potter, Die Hard, Galaxy Quest and Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.
:(
Sad news indeed and I really liked him in 'Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves'.
Yet another great loss :'(

I'd completely forgotten about Galaxy Quest when I was reminiscing earlier, great film!
Another huge loss and another complete surprise :(
Really sad to hear he's gone too !
One of the best (supposed) ad lib lines in a film.
"You twit !"....In Robin Hood POT.
Cheers - Phil
Another surprising one today, and another nice guy gone. Adele was a huge fan and is really upset by it.
First saw him in 'Truely Madly Deeply', he was just brilliant in everything he did.
By Grabthar's hammer he shall be missed!
Another Galaxy quest fan then d_Guy?
My post on FB was:
" 'By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Warvan, you shall be missed!'
RIP Alan Rickman"
One of my favourite Sci-fi movies.
He is another great loss at 69.
That's a real loss.

Wife and I are both fans, re-watch it at least once a year. It is a great parody but as you say a well told SciFi story in its own right.
Also a fan of Rickman. He was such a perfect villain in "Die Hard" that when he was revealed as the Sheriff of Nottingham in "Robin Hood, PoT", the audience reaction was priceless! Will most definitely be missed.
Galaxy Quest is indeed a great film and one that my wife and I enjoy.
You do realise that we will never now get the perfect portrayal of the Patrician of Ankh Morpork?

So true.
Though I have recently voiced the, possibly heretical, notion that it would be interesting to see what Laurence Fox or Benedict Cumberbatch could do with the role.
Cucumberpatch does a Rickman impression, but it wouldn't be the same. :'(

My wife tried to find it new on DVD and it seems to be tricky to get in the UK :(
Maybe we'll have to make it our first Blu-ray acquisition and console ourselves with Dogma in the meantime!
