BBC is breaking the news, he has died aged 69 from cancer.
The world is definitely becoming a poorer place! :(
Great shame.
Cheers - Phil.
Oh gosh, that is sad to hear.
A real shame as I loved a few of his songs. Quite young once again.
Great shame. Ziggy Stardust was the first album I ever bought.
The band in the sky is getting bigger :(
Aladdin Sane is my favourite of his albums, will be giving that a spin in the morning
cheers
Ian
Saw him at Slaine many years ago
RIP
Hi
Gutted. The word legend is used too much these days but he was one of the few who could be called one.
Jim
Yes great shame., and quite young, although I am comming to the conclusion that we have been sold the myth that we should all live to 80 and beyond. Perhaps in reality its still the three score years and 10 for most of us.
I think its also the age of the forum. Most of us are 50+ so those people who were famous when we were young are all getting to 70 plus
:( Sad news indeed. Brilliant at times, weird (but arguably, groundbreaking) at others. So influential. Truly a great artist.
Life expectancy in my great and good country has dropped below 50 by now.

It is likely that his lifestyle earlier in his career probably had an effect on his life expectancy, but the brightest candle often burns shortest.
Him and Lemmy in the same couple of weeks. If there was any kind of afterlife the music would be bloody awesome.

Sad, very sad.
Sad news a great artist.
"I burn my candle at both ends,
It will not last the night.
But ah, my foes,
And oh, my friends,
It gives a lovely light!"
"Out, out brief candle"
Why? WHY!?
Why have we had Lemmy, and Bowie taken from us yet twonks like Beiber remain......? :'(
It might be to do with the fact that he's only about 12. When he's 69 no one will have a clue who he is.
Really surprised to hear this today, and such a shame. I was never a massive fan but I'd quite often flick through some of his greatest hits on YouTube while on the work computer. His performance with Annie Lennox at the Freddie Mercury concert was excellent as well.
I first heard Life on Mars on a car radio when on holiday in Wales with my family. Even at a relatively tender age I knew the man was special. RIP, Major Tom. :(
Dancing to Gene Genie whilst guesting at Derby College (1974) is one of my great memories.

He wants firing into space without a helmet. :D Or a spaceship....... ;D
Listened to several of his songs last night after hearing the news :(
Yeah, he's been on the radio at work quite a bit today :(
