Title: Show Dates for 2016!
Post by: Leon on 02 January 2016, 09:51:43 AM
I hope everyone has had a good New Year!  With the festive season behind us it's time to start looking forward to the 2016 show season and where you can get your Pendraken-in-the-flesh fix over the coming 12 months.

As always, if you'd like to pre-order anything for any of these events, please make sure to let us know at least 7 days in advance!

There are a few notes to the schedule for this year, including:

- The Triples show has moved on the calendar, now taking place in March instead.
- After a year off while the venue was refurbished, the Skelp show is back again this year.
- As with last year, we won't be attending the Crisis show in Antwerp again, but we will hopefully have the pre-order facility available again through Ian at Eagle Figures.

And of course there'll be our own Battleground show taking place on Saturday 26th November this year!

I can make Vapnartak, Carronade, Claymore, Border Reiver, Skelp and Battleground.

I will also go to Albanich, Targe and hopefully Crisis depending on how hard I hit the MasterCard when I'm in the States for a month.

Sadly yet again I doubt if I will be at any of them air flights and hotels are just too expensive these days and the money can be used to buy online instead

You'll have to save up one year and make a weekend of it sometime.  There were a load of guys over from N. Ireland at the Derby show last year, flew straight into the East Midlands airport from Belfast and stayed in the Premier Inn next door.  The show is only 5 minutes down the road so there's not much travel involved.

I don't know if there are flights from Belfast to London City as that's only over the river from the Excel Centre and Salute?  A weekend in London, booked well in advance, isn't too bad costs wise.

I know I have done it a few times in the past when it was still in Derby

Derby is the ideal one with the proximity of the airport.  If you stay in the Premier Inn then you get the pleasure of our company as well!

Claymore, Carronade and Skelp should all be doable using the free bus pass.

The rest will have to wait. If I can afford anything it will be a trip to New York to see my son. Life on a pension has it's advantages but lots of spending money isn't one of them :(

I intend to make it to Donnington, Triples and Joy of Six at some point before I am too decrepit to travel! :)

And none of them are on tomorrow.

1st year with no shows for me for a quite a few years. NZ don't seem to do shows in the same way, all competitions something I try to avoid. I may make Salute in 2017 or 2018 if I behave  ;D

Cheers

There are often a few demonstration games Ian
The organisers should be able to put you in touch with them and you should be able to join in if it is something you are interested in
Very few, if any, participation games as there isn't enough public to participate  :(

It's the combination of traders and demo/participation games that I like about shows and in NZ there just aren't the traders. I guess I was spoilt rotten in UK with shows, big, small and also in tank museums :-) I'm in Wellington when Battle Cry in Auckland is on so will miss that one.

Cheers
Ian

I must admit to much jealousy when reading the various show reports from the UK, US & Europe =P~

If you have some spare time when down in Wellington I'm sure we can arrange something interesting, probably involving Pendraken 10mm figures ;)

Thanks for the info, I'll update our show list with that now.

Unfortunately I've already had 1000 catalogue covers printed with the wrong date on, which is a pain!  They must have updated that recently then, I'd only checked it last week before sending the covers off to the printer.

Bugger! I'm guessing the change was made to avoid Rememberance Sunday.

Well, the closer to Christmas the better as it gives a good excuse for spends.

Possibly, I hadn't thought about that.  It could have just been me getting it wrong as well...!   :D

You'll probably end up travelling hundreds of miles and buying stuff from people who only live down the road from you, too.  ;D

Like me on Saturday  :-[

I fail to understand the attraction of a wargames show such as Salute. I am not against the South London Warlords, they are probably a fine bunch of guys, I've even had a beer or two with some of them in the pub after a show.

It may well be the sheer size of the show that puts me off and the crowds that go with it. I've never been myself but my mate has and he tells me that that stands have a minimum 5 deep scrum in front of them and there's no point waiting patiently to have a word with a trader as he'll be too busy to talk. Besides the noise makes conversation a bit difficult.

Geography is against me as well since I'm from Edinburgh, home of the Claymore show and all the important traders come up north which suits me greatly. I attend about 6 or 7 shows a year and all are within a days travel there and back, some only an hour or less away.  The exception would be a show like Crisis in Antwerp, which is big but not so big that you can't say hello to people without shouting. It does mean an airflight and a few nights in a hotel but what the hell, it is Belgium and they have real beer.

So, if someone like Henry Hyde came to me and said 'Jim, I want you to go to all the UK shows, all expenses paid, write a report for me and I'll publish it.' I would have to say to Henry 'Do I have to go to Salute?'.

Grump over!

PS

I still can't find my Warband units.

I first did Salute two years ago and had a great day out.
I suppose it's like going to Wembley or Hamden Park to watch footie it is one of those things you do because it's what you love or in my case could get cheap travel. :D
We are going again this year mainly because we managed to get very cheap train tickets  :D
