Title: Happy New Year
Post by: pierre the shy on 31 December 2015, 08:59:33 PM
Well.....it's the morning after the night before so I hope everyone had a great time  8)

2016 has opened well with the arrival of the latest PM order with the last of our 1914 and 1917 stuff yesterday afternoon....a few more guns for a couple of batteries that my grandfather was associated with (4.5" Howitzers and 10pdr Mountain Gums) and some HQ figures to build enough Divisional and Brigade HQ's for Germans and the BEF and Paul's desert forces.

Also got some PM Pontoon bridges and some FPW cassions to use as the basis for a couple of German pontoon wagons. After a quick play it looks like they will come out perfectly with a bit of conversion  ;)

After that onto.....finishing off lots of other stuff......not starting anything new......yeah right as the beer ad here in NZ goes  :)

Happy new year to all the Gentlemen of the Forum.

2015 wasn't too bad. Not great, but not a raging disaster.

Lots of Waterloo stuff, a little Agincourt and Gallipoli.

What's coming up in 2016? I have made some predictions.

    * Techno will continue his self-whittling. By the end of the year the little finger on his left hand will look like the Archbishop of York.
    * Dave is hospitalised for two days after removing the first Maus from the casting machine. (Resin, Dave, resin.)
    * Lemmey will break his painting finger in a bizarre accident involving a cat, a coconut and a gusset. He will take up throat singing and become youtube sensation with his covers of Motorhead tracks.
    * There will be a photo of the Pendraken staff put on the forum.
    * Pendraken will produce Aztecs. FK will never be heard of again.
    * Westmarcher will be arrested for Penguin smuggling after an anonymous tip, just as soon as I get his address to give the police.
    * d_Guy become a Major General.
    * Tawa will become a Elf-mage.
    * A female will join the forum.
    * Leon will watch a series of management DVDs in order to enhance Pendraken productivity. Unfortunately, he picks two series of "The Office".

Obviously some of these are a bit far fetched - a female on the forum!

Happy 2016 chaps, happy 2016.

Happy New Year to All wherever you are.

Most inconvenient this festive stuff, upsetting my painting schedules no end. Why can't we get it done and dusted and out of the way at some more convenient time considering the 'universal wargamer'.

Next question, what is a universal wargamer?

Happy new year all.
For me it is the start of a new year in a new country. Missing the old mates and bonfire we sit around each NYE, but I have new friends and new games to play up here in the Far North so looking forward to that. Also the lack of handy shops and games shows will SHOULD limit the spending on new projects and allow me to finish some in the pile  :D

I hope you all get what you deserve from life in 2016 and have some fun doing it  :)

Cheers
Ian

I really enjoyed LAST year on the forum, gentlemen (and hypothetical lady)!
May 2016 be filled with much luck and good humor - Happy New Year to all!

Briefly my plans for 2016  (other than working on the near impossible metric for Maj. Gen.):
1) complete wargaming the battles of Montrose's annus mirabilis
2) continue the wargaming exploration of the first year of the Irish Rebellion (1641-1642) to include:
     a) the siege of (and assaults on) Drogheda
     b) the raids and depredations of the elder Coote on the fringes of The Pale
     c) the battle of Liscarroll
3) probably some 17th century action in North America - likely my closest  "ECW" battle - the Severn.

I also am planning a new project (with a different blog):
To wargame the principle skirmishes and battles of the little remembered War of the Orbs in 1456. Overshadowed by the dynastic struggles for the throne of England, the invasion of Devon and Cornwall by the M-at-Dur-ba (using  hydrogen filled balloons) still holds a certain charm.
Largely remembered only in folk songs and the drunken ravings of a few Cornish Mystics (a group larger than one would first suspect) I will try to reconstruct the war as best I can.

Now this year did not start very well... >:(
My library got partly flooded yesterday evening (and I don't even live in the North of GB!) by a leaking sink one floor above... the USAAF collection is as good as destroyed and major damage was done to the US Navy and USMC book shelves.... I fear more than 100 books are total losses and another 50 damaged. Looks like my own Pearl Harbor....
Don't get me wrong; it can not be compared to people who lost everything lately in floods, storms, war or whatever but I'm pretty sad about my share of bad luck :(

Let's see what the insurance says and if most can be replaced....

Cheers,
Rob
Title: Re: Happy New Year
Post by: Techno on 04 January 2016, 08:28:26 PM
Really sorry to hear about that, Rob..... =)
Also suffering here, with water 'from above' rather than actual flooding.....Though the ridiculous amount of rain here, has almost turned out paddocks into paddy fields.... X_X

Discovered over the weekend that the gales had broken a tile on the roof and b*ggered a small patch of roofing felt, so we've now also go a leak.....Though relatively small, it's still causing water to dribble down the wall into our bedroom, when it really chucks it down.....Which seems to the norm, at the moment.

Got a bucket sitting in a roasting dish in the attic, which, hopefully, is catching 99%+ of the water, now.
Over the next day or so I'll do a patch job on the felt...Then we'll have to ask one of our farmer friends if he'll bring his 'cherry picker' to Techno Towers, and replace the tile.
(Fortunately a previous owner left oodles of spare tiles, so that's not a problem......But it's something I'd rather not be having to deal with.)

Like you say....Nothing remotely to compare with the folk who have had rivers running through their properties !

Cheers - Phil

Spades, I sincerely appreciate what a colossal pain in fundament that would be.

I have some books that have been with me for over 40 years. If they got destroyed I would be devastated.

My ex-wife once casually suggested that I loved my books more than I loved her. Well, strewth, it took me years to get those books!

Wonder if that's another reason she's my ex?

Hope the weather improves soon Techno, sunny and 19 here, hopefully I'll get the Germans varnished once the basing touch ups dry :-w

Actually I'm hoping the trenches will arrive today and they will get top priority, tomorrow or Thursday is more realistic :!!

Happy New Year  to al who are a part of the asylum that its the Pendraken Forum

Hope you get things sorted Ace.

Phill - careful on that Cherry picker - We know what your like.  we would hate to loose you , unless Mrs T or the MIL can sculpt of course - then we would get over it  ;).
Seriously its a long way down from the roof.  One of stepdaughters freinds lost her Dad when he fell off a ladder.

My Predictions for 2016

I will try not to buy more figures until my painting pile is reduced to the size of Ben Nevis - and will fail miserably
Last Hussar's attendance at club nights will reach double figures
FSN will be arrested and make the National News for "committing an unnatural act of a sexual nature" with a Centurion tank at Bovingdon.
BKC rules will be released and on the inside cover will be a picture of Leon playing on the Xbox!
THe Pendraken painting competition will again contain pictures of 28mm figures that have been shrunk to 10mm ( thats the only way they can painnt to that detail) and yes I am amazed/jealous

Yes I probably did love my books more than my Ex. Definitely more exciting .

Ace of Spades: Sorry to hear that. It sounds terrible
All those precious books  :'(

Techno: Yep, I've water dripping from my bedroom ceiling as well. Water always finds a way in! (though having a missing tile on your roof won't help, I'll admit).

Matt of Munslow: Think on it this way. Some people pay a fortune on gym membership to do that level of cardio exercise. Could you be missing out on a opportunity here? Is there anybody local to you who you could charge a couple of quid to do the work? - tell them it is cheaper than gym membership after all!
Seriously though, I hope thinks get back to normal for you asap.

No worry about me going up in the cherry picker, Mark...(I'll leave that to the experts)...And there's NO way I'd go onto the roof.....WAY too steep.
That side of Techno Towers is a long drop down to the drive.
(The other side's not so bad.....An 8 foot drop to a flat roof.)

Thank you all for your warm thoughts and support, it's much appreciated!
My insurance agent told me to make a list and take some pictures and then we take it from there. Looks like most softbacks (Ospreys, Squadron Signals etc.) suffered the worst although I have seen some other great books are definitely lost too. Guess I'll spend about a week listing all and looking for links on prices and availability.
The good thing is there's no personal harm involved (untill I find out who did the plumbing on the kitchen sink before I moved in!)

Cheers,
Rob
