Title: Toward story-driven addon packs
Post by: Cyril on 06 September 2010, 11:52:02 AM
Everything is in the title. As I was thinking about building a Dungeon World campaign, an old memory came back to my mind when I played Hero Quest back in the 80's. After the success of the game, MB published a collection of add-ons including miniatures, furnitures and tiles dedicated to a bunch of quests. I'm pretty sure many people here remember the "Return of the Witch Lord "...

Since I remember there was an announcement somewhere saying other "dungeon packs" were planned, I'd like to know if is it still the case ?

I know Leon has a mind to putting together a few Dungeon Packs at some later point (themed monsters, new heroes and additional furnishings, a few new rules to go with each pack, and perhaps a Dungeon Map and scenario... that sort of thing. But this will be when time permits so I`m not sure we can look forward to anything in the too near future as Leon`s work load with Pendraken Miniatures keeps him really busy.

However, be a little bit patient, and there WILL be a book which will answer many of your wishes; and happily... it WILL be something I am doing with Pendrakens full support and blessing. The hardback book will include a self contained campaign world (though customizable, and tailor suited to each reader`s personal vision of his world... even the maps will `float` in the sense that you will be able to pop them down where you like), including short stories, scenarios, battle reports, and a complete rules system for playing Dungeon World as a mass battle table top game alongside its original cousin. Plus there will be a lot more besides.

I`m hoping to have this finished and ready to go to print by Easter 2011, which is going to be quite a tough objective to reach, but at the moment I believe I am on target for it.

Six  :)

I love your last sentence Six, I absolutely have to agree with you. Publishing a hardback book makes people think you mean business !  :D

As for the description of your book, as always, I like your philosophy !
And I really look forward to buy at least a copy ! So get back to work !  ;D

As Six says, we will be adding some 'Add-on's for the Dungeon's, but it will be as and when I find the time.  The rules Six is producing sound fantastic, so I may wait until they are released, and then look at doing some bits to go along with that.

Full add-on packs sound very good, even if some time in the future.

In the short term would it be possible to offer mixed packs of each race of Fantasy creatures eg Elves, Orcs or Dwarves. These would be handy for adding monsters to a dungeon and giving some variety to the poses.

We can always supply individual figures if you need them, just make a list and drop it to us by email, and we'll price it up for you.

THAT I like !
Mmmm... *think* *think*.. :-\

And I agree with fred12df, something like a "supplement pack" adding some peripheral stuff to the dungeon core pack could be great. Actually, you (pendraken) just have to wait for the first batreps and feedback to show up !  ;)

I'll be putting together a 'Booster Pack' of Dungeon pieces, so you can extend your Dungeon's with some of the bits that didn't make it into the first Pack, like the stairs, the small room extensions, etc.  After that, I'd like to offer themed packs of figures, eg. an Egyptian pack, with the Mythology figures, the giant Mummy, some Bat Swarms, etc.

Do we know how this will be avaliable?  Is it going to be in the "fantasy" section, or under the "Dungeon Packs" section, or will there be a new "Rules" section? Will there be a PDF option as well, or a print + PDF bundle?  Are there plans to start selling the print + PDF bundle early, so people who pre-order can get the PDF beforeit becomes avaliable to the general public?

Of course, it's been a few days shy of a month since I ordered my Dungeon Packs and they haven't arrived yet...so I guess it would be smart to see how that order turns out first. ;)

Don't know for sure at the moment, we'll have a better idea once it's here and I've had chance to look through it.  The initial plan is to get it published and on sale asap, but we need to chat with a few printers.  PDF's would hopefully be an option as well, but I'd have to talk with Matt about the best way to put it onto the website.

It was posted on the 29th, so in theory it should be with you anytime now.  I know Warstore had some delays to their last order from us, so it looks like the UK --> US shipping problems haven't completely disappeared.

As is always the case when you post something about not getting your product...you come home and it's sitting in the mail box...well, part of it anyway.  I ordered DNP1 & DNP2, but the only box I got today was DNP2.  The shipping email said "all orders are shipped seperately"...but since I technically ordered them together on the same order, I'm a little confused if that means I'll be getting another box (which is what I'm assuming at the time), or if something went wrong?

They're packaged separately, as they both fit nicely in their respective boxes.  We did try taping the two boxes together on a couple of orders, but it was more hassle than benefit, and didn't really affect the postage costs.  Hopefully the other box will be happily sat in the mailbox tomorrow!
