Continuing my education in the FPW, I came across this link which may be of interest to some of the FPW fans in the forum.

Despite the occasional and unintentionally humorous transcription error, a fascinating read about US Army General Philip H. Sheridan's experiences as a military observer in this war.
Just had a quick look and it certainly makes for interesting reading. Will peruse at my leisure later on this week. Thanks for sharing.

From me as well.
Good find.
He's the one who observed Vob Moltke catch a hare by hand!!
Thanks for sharing!
Much appreciated. Added to my reading list.
Sheridan's description of King Wilhelm is surprisingly pro monarchy for such a strong republican.
Well, when your reports are going through the Prussian telegraph system, and you are a guest of the King, they would be! ;D
They are very substantial documents for transmission, and they were not time sensitive, so I doubt that such stuff would be allocated the priority to be transmitted when the genuine military traffic was busy. But such is the wonder of the Pendraken Forum that there is doubtless some clever chap out there to prove me conclusively wrong. Probably Cameronian.

;D ;D ;D ;D As Wikipedia would have it, the transatlantic cable at this time could transmit less than ten words a minute!
Mollinary
Can we have some forward slashes between the letters, Cam ?
All I can make out is TOAMS at the end...And I've no idea what a TOAM is. :D

Wrong (hint, Prussian code isn't Morse)
Right that it would be Cameronian. so 50% success.
My online Morse decoder of choice suggests
.-. . .- .-.. .-.. --... -.-. .- -. - --- .- --... = REALLY CANT SAY
No "turkey trots to water" or "the world wonders" to confuse enemy decryptors? My, Prussian security is lax ;)
Spot on, have a cigar ;D
So if Prussian code wasn't morse what was it?
-Patrick
It was a dot dash code sent by telegraph, the only reason morse is called 'Morse' is because he formalised the code in America and gave it his name (though it was his associate Mr Vale who invented it).
Interesting! Learned something new today.
Thanks
-Patrick
Seems a wasted Endeavour by Mr.Vale. Coat already under arm!
