Has anyone got a WAS Spanish army?
In the abscence of photos, I am dithering about what figures to use for my Spanish Army to fight Austrians in Italy.
For the infantry, French w/o turnbacks are out (& there's no code for French with turnbacks in march attack position)
Not sure about British/Hanoverians but Prussians are definitely out.
That leaves the Russians? Are they the best fit?

Many of the Russians are depicted in waistcoat order so probably not the best figure for Spaniards. I'm assuming the Spanish army of the 1740s wore the coat. The Funcken Lace Wars Vol.2 definitely shows turn backs for the 1740s, so Austrian fusiliers would work, but the grenadiers won't owing to the headdress.
I hope the following solves your problems:

Cheers, Rob :) :)
Great pics Rob. They'll come in useful. The lack of photos I was lamenting was those on the Pendraken site for the models to give me some idea as to which packs to buy. Just wondered if anyone else had already solved this to their satisfaction.
I may have to go with the French first while I cogitate more on the Spanish.

Good to know. Nearly bought the Russians. Don't mind going the Austrian route if nothing else available but would need some Grenadiers. Photos Rob suggested show GRenadiers with a bearskin front & a bag behind. Can anybody suggest any other Pendraken figures to match this?

As mentioned in my previous reply you will probably have to use Austrian grenadiers because the Spanish grenadier hat is the same as theirs.
I have Spanish but not in 10mm. The French with turnbacks are clearly the best fit for the Spanish line and that is what I used. But as you don't seem to like the poses for them then I would guess Austrians would be second choice, especially as they would fit in with the grenadiers. The Spanish, line and grenadiers, shouldn't have lapels so you either do a bit of modifying or paint over these.
Thanks everyone. I'm probably being too picky & a lot of detail can be glossed -or rather, painted - over in 10mm.
It's true that I like certain poses - just wish Pendraken did French with turnbacks in march attack but can't have everything.
I prefer to buy armies in one go & binge paint rather than pick my way slowly, especially with the holidays looming.
As the consensus seems to be Austrian as a good second choice, I may have to go for that.
Cheers!
