Hi all
I received a reasonably weighty parcel from Leon yesterday with the modern vehicles range to paint up. It'll probably take several weeks to complete so I was going to post complete pics here as I went along.
A couple of these will end up in my own Vietnam project, such as the Cent MK5, and I was thinking alot of the others would be Arab-Isreali but I didn't want a whole load of desert pattern tanks. So I would welcome some input from esteemed members on some camo and theatre ideas.
and any suggestions on where to start, although the Conqueror looks very tasty.
Thanks
Matt
Vietnam, East Germany, Hungarian revolt of 58, Berlin Brigade, Beirut, UN operations in The Former Yugoslav states, Any African war you can mention, West German kit, China/India/Pakistan/Bangladesh and related conflicts.
With Team Yankee being released in 2 weeks and debuted at special weekend over here in NI some Western European stuff might be good

I've assembled and based everything now and finished a couple of models - Egyptian armour for the Sinai, 1973 - T 55, BTR 152, OT-62 (pics soon).
Next will be some of the Isreali stuff - Centurion Sho't and I was also going to paint a Centurion Mk9 in IDF colours, would this be accurate?
Thanks

That one looks a little too bright a pink but basically it was found that pink was the best camo for vehicles in the Western Desert.
Great painting of all of these!
(http://That one looks a little too bright a pink)
In the 'flesh' so to speak the model is a lot less pink, photography is a funny thing when it comes to colours.
The green and black camo on the last lot doesn't photograph too well either. When I take the proper photos for the website I'll have to play around some more.
I'm especially fond of that IS-3! Lovely job.
:-bd
Beautiful work Matt. The T-55 is superb. Great brush work. When you get around to those Centurians you could do an Aussie ones from Vietnam??? B Squadron 1st Armoured Regiment at the battle of Binh Ba. (my old Squadron and Regiment) ;)

Great painting of all of these!
A generation too late for the Western Desert, the Series II '109' Landrover "Pinkie" was used by the Mobility Troop in Oman and Dhofar. The 110 HPCU became the standard DPV around 1985/86.
Now here is something you won't find via google search. Irrespective the colour of the paint, a long wheel base Rover is affectionally known in the SAS as a Pinkie. In Operation Banner (N Ireland) in the 1970s they were deployed in olive drab on the Antrim plateau and in 1991 in Desert Storm, A and D Squadron were deployed with 109s and 90s. They were all in now in standard Desert Beige, but still referred to as Pinkies. The short wheelbase 90 was/is one of the best 4X4 ever and is known as the Dinkie.
As with most AVFs and softskins, camouflage paint and scrim only works when you are static. Once you move, the movement and the dust betrays you. Or in the case of the Chieftain, the exhaust.
Well thank you very much!
I enter a Conqueror into the painting comp and then you do ... this!

My understanding was that the use of the colour originated in WW2 and continued to be used for desert conditions for some time after.
Certainly my ex's godfather, who was an Intelligence Officer in North Africa in WW2, had a photo of self and others poring over a map spread out on the bonnet of an LRDG vehicle which was a dusty faded pastel pink. I made some comment about colour degradation assuming it should be a shade of beige and was told that, on the contrary, the vehicle had indeed been light pink.
Next up the forums favourite post war tank, painted as IDF

Inevitably this has led me full swing into another project so some more cents and t54,55,62 on the way to fight over the Sinai.
What will you be using for infantry :-\
Super job on those, Matt ! :-bd
Cheers - Phil
QuoteWhat will you be using for infantry Undecided
Pendraken's, as yet unsculpted Arab Isreali war range!
It'll take me a while to paint up the hardware anyhow. So by the time the infantry are released I'll be ready for them. I'm in no rush, my project time scales are measured in years not weeks or months :D
(http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lnsdubjoOB1qbcheyo1_500.gif)
Very nice. I feel the pull of '73!
Thanks Matt J, what size bases are they on?
Resisting the temptation to do 67 & 73 in 10mm using Modern Spearhead :-\
Hi Paul
Bases are 6cm by 4cm, centurion is a big beast.
Don't resist :D
Once the M60 is released, the hardware will all be there and the infantry will follow quickly when fsn starts lobbying :D
And you already have the terrain :D
Very Nice paint jobs Matt

More cracking work Matt, are these for the website?
The camo really works on the Lynx, it makes it quite hard to see the shape of the vehicle!
:-bd =D> :-bd
cheers guys
QuoteMore cracking work Matt, are these for the website?
Yes mate. Although some of the photos will be redone. Most of them on this thread are quick click and shoot and tidy up. I might trim the bush on that Lynx a bit as you're right it is maybe a bit too camouflaged.
QuoteYou forgot the Eskie on the back of the Centurion
can't on this one but his friends in the troop will be correctly provided with refreshments ;)
Lovely painting Matt, what colours did you use on the Egyptian T62. I have a few 6mm bits to do and those colours look just what i need. I dont normally do vehicles so any help would be appreciated.
best

Cheers kev
Pretty straight forward mate (unusual for me as I have a habit of going round the wrekin)
All gw colours
Base - steel legion drab
1st highlight - balor brown
2nd highlight - zamesi desert
3rd highlight - half zamesi desert half screaming skull
Then pick out very edges in screaming skull
6mm you'd probably skip 3rd highlight(?)
Post some pics if you can always a pleasure seeing your stuff.
Matt
Thank's Matt,
Yes i think i will skip the 3rd highlight ;D, i'm doing a few odd 6mm bits for various countries , will post pics soon.

Got to love a good Centurion.
I'm very impressed with that Berlin Brigade. :x
Superb work as always and love the Berlin Brigade camo 8)
How do you get the Berlin Brigade camo so ... square? :-\
Excellent work on the Berlin Brigade cammo, but it was only used on Chieftains, introduced in the early 80's (may be later).
IanS
Who cares Ian, it's AWESOME!
Is that why you're 'mad' Lemmey? ;)
I'm with Will. Pass the dried frog pills and BerlinBrigade camo!
You would be mad if you ever tried it. I have 2 Airfix Cheifes in it, mind blowing.

They look so much better painted great job :D :D :D :D :D :D
I did an Amtrak in 20mm in the same camo but alien colours for sci-fi. It was... Challenging :D

a really, really tiny set square....
seriously though, no easy way, just take your time.
