Painting the 'mercenaries' for my Lion Rampant 28mm plastics, and I don't know which scheme to choose
On the left The Free company of Belgrade.
On the right "Captain" Messi of Barcalona

The sprues come with helmets with flags on, ridiculous plumes, tabors etc, so I am going to a little overboard. I'm bored of painting historical peasants in a tabard!
Painted these two bodies up to post for opinions - hence no arms/head, as I will have to repaint one of them! The unit will be 9 pikes (acting as Foot Serjeants in the rules) a standard bearer, a drummer, and an officer in as heroic pose as I can get it to do!
The red & white looks good, perhaps a bit too Sunderland but stands out well ;)
Cheers
Ian
I'd have to say that I prefer the Barca colours.
Cheers - Phil
I'd go with the red and white. The Barca are too dark to make an impact.
Somehow the darker colours "feel" more accurate but I think the red and white will stand out more on the tabletop. Remember, as they are European mercenaries, you can always paint some of the helmets in matching colours like the tricolour helmets here.

You could paint one unit of each...

I've only got enough pikes for one unit.
I've started them blue/red - think any cockups will be less noticable
