Title: Basing WW2 Infantry
Post by: SV52 on 16 November 2015, 09:48:50 AM
This is not aimed at any particular rule system, rather a general query.

I have it in mind to model elements of the the Panzer Lehr Division in Normandy '44.  The armour side is straightforward enough, my indecision is with the Panzergrenadiers. My sources tell me that a squad consisted of 10 men with 2 MG42's, riflemen and a panzershrek with an Sdkfz251/1.

What's the 'best' way of representing the mix of firepower on the minimum number of bases? :-\

My previous WW2 efforts have been in a larger scale concentrating on infantry Company/Platoon/Squad with a base for each distinct weapon type.  This time the infantry are an accompaniment to the armour.

It is hard to decide without having a ruleset to go by, but some options:

2 x 4 man rifle/mg bases ad 1x 2-man anti tank base

1x 5man rifle/mg base and 1x 5 man rifle/mg base with AT capability

I have the latter, but this obviously fits in the BKC rules

You could go with the mg's, rifles and schrek on separate bases, but it would not be sensible 'historically' to have all mg's in one group. They would be distributed in 2 groups so one can always cover fire while the other one is moving

Thanks, much as I see it too.  Two bases, one with A/T capability it is.

Wow! An armoured green ogre with a Canadian accent and a halftrack would be quite an opponent in 1944  :o  :D :D  ;)
