Post by: Druzhina on 15 November 2015, 04:59:25 AM
One of the most famous monuments of the Northern Black Sea coast, with preserved ancient paintings, is a crypt on the northern slope of Mount Mithridates in Kerch (ancient Panticapaeum, capital of the Bosporan Kingdom) discovered in 1872.
Black Sea Sarmatian cavalry and infantry portrayed in a painted tomb of the Crimean Bosporus (Crypt 1872). (http://www.warfare.altervista.org/Ancient/Bosporan_murals.htm)
Reconstructions based on the Bosporan murals:

There is also the stele of Tryphon son of Andromenes in Sarmatian cavalry armour and costume, Tanais in the Don estuary. (http://www.warfare.altervista.org/Ancient/Sarmatian-Tryphon_of_Tanais.htm)
Note that none of the riders have horse-armour.
