As well as the other projects I have on the go, I am looking to put together a platoon of Fallschirmjäger for doing Operation Sealion using Chain of Command.
I've got figure selection down for the basic platoon (I think):
(Appropriate Pendraken figure choice listed after the dash)
Early Fallschirmjäger 1940 ‐ 41
Platoon Headquarters
Leutnant, Senior Leader, with MP40 - GR19
Medic - GR17
Rife Team (Two MP40, Two rifles) - 2 x GR19, 2 x GR17
Squada One to Three
Junior Leader – Hauptgefreiter, with MP40 - GR19
LMG Team (MG34, Three crew) - GR235 + 1 x GR19
Rifle Team (Four rifleman) - GR17
Rifle Team (Four rifleman) - GR17
I'm thinking that I might replace some of the GR17s with GR234s to mix things up a little.
Where I come unstuck is the support options:
Engineer Mine Clearance Team, 3 men
Engineer Wire Cutting Team, 3 men
Engineer Demolition Team, 3 men
Panzerbüchse 38/39 Team, 2 men
Le.GrW36 5cm mortar Team, 3 men
Flamethrower Team, 3 men
Sniper Team
PaK36 37mm anti-tank gun with 5 crew and Junior Leader
le.18 with five crew and a Junior Leader
Engineer Section with Junior Leader
7.5cm Leichtgeschütz 40 with five crew and Junior Leader
2.8cm sPzb 41 with five crew and Junior Leader
MG34 on tripod mount, 5 crew (Thinking this should actually be an MG42)
8cm mortar battery with Forward Observer
Forward Observer
So if anyone has any suggestions / opinions, I'm all ears.
Thanks in advance.
- Neil.
Neil
Mine clearance & wirecutting - conversions or a note on what they are doing I think
PzB 38/39 - GR236 (AT rifle)
5cm mortar - use 5cm mortar and 8cm para crew?
Demo team - GR 237 with satchel charge
FT - GR238 flamethrower
LG40 - GR239
Sniper - convert by adding scope?
PAK36 and IG18 - not sure about LG40 crew
2.8cm sPzB - unknown
sMG34 - use GR21 unfortunately it's an MG42
8cm - not usually on table but use GR36 8cm and an officer?
Artillery spotters - use officer and RTO
Also not sure if any of the Ardennes paras are any use GR117 etc
Edward
Hi Neil,
I had a few extra poses made for me by Techno. they are the later numbered ones on page 4 of the website.
Not mentioned is an officer with pistol, He is essentially the officer standing pointing in GR24 but with a pistol. In BKC I will use him as a marker to denote stands that have not found weapons yet.
I use different shape bases in 20mm to help pick out individuals easily. ie Guncrew on Hexagons, engineers on octagons.
Engineer Mine Clearance Team, 3 men - You will have to use standard engineers for these. File the helmet to lose the coal scuttle shape
Engineer Wire Cutting Team, 3 men You could possible get away using some kneeling gun crew or see above
Engineer Demolition Team, 3 men - Use GR237 Satchel Charge
Panzerbüchse 38/39 Team, 2 men - GR236
Le.GrW36 5cm mortar Team, 3 men - Use GR15 the 8cm and cut it down severly or GR117 and adapt the helmets again . Or as it will be the only mortar on the table use as is and just define it as the 50mm
Flamethrower Team, 3 men GR238
Sniper Team - I would use the on of the A/T Rifle men, shorten the barrel, Add any kneeling number 2
PaK36 37mm anti-tank gun with 5 crew and Junior Leader GR95 with Para crew
le.18 with five crew and a Junior Leader - GR75 Request Para crew - I may be wrong but i don't think these were used early war by the Paras - that why the 7.5cm Leichtgeschütz 40 was used
Engineer Section with Junior Leader - You will have to use standard engineers for these. File the helmet to loose the coal scuttle shape
7.5cm Leichtgeschütz 40 with five crew and Junior Leader - See GR239
2.8cm sPzb 41 with five crew and Junior Leader - This one is missing From the model I have in 20mm I would use the italian 47mm a/t Gun ITA6 and ask for kneeling Para crew as it has no shield .
MG34 on tripod mount, 5 crew (Thinking this should actually be an MG42) - MG42 did not come in until 1942 so MG34 is correct. They are almost identical and both were used to end of war , so I would use GR21
8cm mortar battery with Forward Observer - In Chain of Command the 8CM Mortar is off table so you only need the forward observer
Forward Observer - Use the Para radio opereator in GR25 and the Officer kneeling with a map in GR24
Its worth remembering that stuff added to the catalogue is numbered as it is added so its worth looking all the way through on most ranges as the early paras are on page 4 of the german section not page 1
Ardennes paras will be in the wrong kit.
B*gg*r, I somehow missed that the LG40 was available :o :(. I've ordered Fallschirmjager crew to go with ATGs etc, which Dave and Leon have been happy to help me with. I can show you them tomorrow Neil, but most of them are half painted or just undercoated.
Thanks all. that is very, very helpful.
Steve - will definitely take you up on checking out the figures you have. Getting a chance to see poses is always useful.
- Neil.
OK Neil, I'll dig them out for you and it might even inspire to finish a battalion off for a planned game next week... :-\
