Well at long last I have made a start on my 10mm Vikings. These little chaps have been on the painting pile for a few years now. I was going to start on them earlier this year but ended up painting 4 Warband Armies, some 15mm ECW and 28mm Gauls plus lots of 28mm Fantasy for Frostgrave. Now at last I have made a start on my Vikings to fight with my already painted Normans and Anglo Danes.

So far I have done a command stand plus a base of skirmishers and started work on my first longboat. Many more to come soon. (if I don't get distracted again!).
Good start! :)
Nice and bright. Like 'em.

Loving the longboat!
Is it a kit or scratch built. So tempted with Vikings!
I could use them as proxie wild men for my LOTR game. :-\ :'(

I got 2 of the longboats from another forum member, (Chieftain or Barbarian I cannot remember which), who had a few cast up for his own gaming needs and flogged me a couple via the forum.Very nice they are too and i look forward to getting this first one painted. I can't decide to have it based on a piece of river or beached. I will probably go with beached as there is no rowing crew. If I put it beached I can have a few Vikings stood guarding it.
Cheers Bodvoc
Mmm now where's my credit card lol.
I have so much going on at the moment 28mm Zombies,20mm Afghan, 10mm sci fi, WW2 and Lord of the rings lol

Looking really good.
I have just remembered it was Ironduke who made the original longboats and had them cast up.
I just tried drilling small holes for the oars this afternoon and split the side. No more holes but a bit of glue and filler and the longboat is OK again, the oars will have to be glued into place.
Glad you managed to Rescue it.
Can't. Go sailing across the North Sea for a bit of pillaging if there's a dirty great crack in the boat they'll be too busy bailing to row.

Sean
Very nice indeed
Take care

Well progress has been slow due to a large box of Dungeon Saga goodies arriving plus many other distractions. But some work has been done, a unit of Guards for my Boss man, who is not named yet. He will earn a suitable Viking title once he gets into battle. There are another 12 painted Vikings on my painting table who are not based yet.

In the second photo you can see my Vikings and their boat 'dropped' into a solo dark ages game currently on the gaming table. The longboat is painted but needs a few crew added and of course a sail. I will then texture the base to add water, sandy/stoney beach and some grass as if the longboat is beached whilst the Vikings go off pillaging. The lines where the water, beach, land will be added can be seen on the base. More Vikings will be on guard around the boat and maybe the beginnings of a stockade? This is intended to be a base from which the Vikings can launch their attacks.
What would be nice would be some 10mm Viking Longboat crew actually rowing from Pendraken! :D
I have one more of these boats that may get made and painted the same but will actually be sailing up river.
Very nice work on those.
Really good stuff ! 8)

Looking good :)

Didn't buy Vikings in end bought Zombies instead ;D

Very nice figures, and the boat looks good too.
I'd perhaps move the water line back a bit, so that a bit more of the boat shows as beached.
Yes, I may well move the waterline back a bit, it would also give me more room to put figures around the boat etc..
Very nice indeed
Take care

Just to make it clear, these are Pendraken Viking, correct?
I ask because on of my future projects will be to build some 'Dark Ages' armies including English, Viking, Norman and possibly Welsh and Scots/Picts.
Yes, all my Vikings are Pendraken, very nice sculpts they are too. I have finished armies of Normans and Saxons and also have some Picts to do at some point soon, then my Late Roman...etc...
Good to hear, thank-you.
nice stuff did you make the boat yourself? its pretty cool
The main longboat body/hull was sculpted and cast in resin and made by another forum member (was it Barbarian?) for his own project, he had a couple left over which I bought from him.
I have only completed one so far, seats were added with chopped up coffee stirrers, a cocktail stick for the mast and a paper sail, cotton for the simplified rigging. I need to add to these chaps to at least create a small basic Impetus/Impetus force.
