Title: ECW starter scenario

just getting started with ECW can anyone suggest a smallish starter scenario, any ECW book suggestions would be welcome also

We have 6 assorted scenarios on our site - http://www.wfgamers.org.uk/WWAE.htm

For scenarios I would recommend the series of ECW scenario booklets from Caliver/Partizan - http://www.caliverbooks.com/Partizan%20Press/partizan_fhs.shtml . Caliver/Partizan are a horrible company generally but this set is good.

The English Civil War in Yorkshire by David Cooke, Pen and Sword Books is not only a great read but is full of small scale skirmishes upto big battles. I also second the suggestion of the Caliver /Partisan Press scenario books. Personally I have found them very easy to deal with with a very prompt postal service. Their website is full of books on the ECW.
Can I ask what scale are you doing the ECW in and what rules are you going to use?

One of the ECW Caliver scenario books covers the campaign in the West and includes small-scale scenarios up to bigger battles like Lansdown and Roundway Down. The campaigns in the north are also good for smaller scenarios, as mentioned above. An advantage of going with a campaign is the satisfaction of building an historical army.

I think some sort of raid on a convoy, or a village defense, should be feasible with a small number of figures.

I would always recommend "The English Civil War, 1642-1651: An Illustrated Military History"
by Philip J. Haythornthwaite :

Sorry, I have to disagree with that statement, I have had nothing but good dealings with that company both mail order and at shows. Very helpful and a company I would have no hesitation in recommending.

Have to agree with Sandy. I've only ever experienced good dealings with Dave, both at shows and on line.
