Someone posted this youtube clip about gaming in the 1960's on the NZ Wargaming Yahoo Group which I thought might be of interest....

Things have changed somewhat it seems - haven't seen anyone gaming in a three piece suit, collar and tie for a while :o
The rules are much better as well.

One should never wargame in a three piece suit and tie, as Wargaming is mostly an after dinner affair, one should don white tie and tails.
Unless it is an all day competition where tweeds are acceptable for day wear, and an informal evening game where one should done black tie and short dinner jacket! >:(
Or summer, where white dinner jackets are sometimes acceptable. If the host agrees.
Three pieces are acceptable for painting and terrain work, if your servabts are busy.
*ediited for commas and informal wear*
My old colonel always insisted on full dress uniform with decorations, even for DBR.
I like to wear my mankini, get a tub of yoghurt and...whoops, wrong forum!
Never mind HIS three piece suit, what about HER, what a gorgeous lady, all done up in her nice scarlet jacket, God, do you think she's wearing stockings ..... :o
.... in which case, seeing its a formal red dinner jacket, it could be "Dress Commando" ........
BTW, I have an issue with the term 'Battle Dress' ..... grown men going into battle in a dress .... I mean to say, what is that all about?
Anyone else notice? That "British Frontier Fort" in the video - that was the defence of the North Gate of Hougoumont surely? Tut, tut, Pathe News.
Nothing else to say. Just messing around with you.

Not necessarily.
Brilliant. Things have gone downhill since. In this SPI infomercial from the 1970s the players are smoking cigarettes while playing wargames. My word, brandy, cigars and pipes, yes. But cigarettes and soft drinks, what is rhe world coming to.

Was it some sort of unwritten law that all wargamer s in the 60's had to look like James Robertson Justice?
And no dice anywhere to be seen...no more bad dice rolls...Halleluja! :)

Bowler hats and floral shirts? :-\
Perfectly acceptable, or a fez. ;)
:D
The day I finish my armies, the terrain AND own a house, my dream is to host a "gentleman's war fighting evening", with fine cuisine, and bourbon and/or cognac to be served while pushing around armies!
At least with figures that size, Matey doesn't have to wear an optivisor.
