Title: How big is too big?
Post by: Sean67 on 24 October 2015, 04:45:07 PM
Evening all
I've just counted up my LOTR figures to see what I need to order next!
Shocked to find I have over 66 bases of various orcs, and over 90 of good forces!
I have
15 gondor infantry bases 8 to a base (Pendraken Norman)
26 Rohirrim cavalry 4 to a base
9 Rohirrim foot 10 to a base
32 Dwarf Warriors 8 to a base
Various elements of bows, Rangers for the good side
24 Uruk hai spears 10 to a base
21 Uruk Hai sword 10 to a base
9 Orc sword 10 to a base
Various smaller elements of bow and Warg riders
Just wondering how my good forces over took my Orcs?
All figures bar the Pendraken Gondorians are Copplestone
Regards
Sean

To answer the question ... I think too big is when it falls off the table.

As for wargames forces, it's harder to tell. I have a whole chunk of stuff for WWII, but they don't all necessary go on the table at the same time. They just give me options. So my British 1940 force can be purely infantry, tank, or armoured with quite a mix of AT, AA, and artillery.

As long as you can still play with it, it isn't too big.

Cheers FSN
This project started to fight pellennnor fields from the book. But somehow I got seduced into buying dwarves.
Shocked when I found out how many bases I had of them.
My WW2 armies are big and still growing for western and eastern front 10mm
I have a soviet 1985 tank division in 6mm.
So I think I can be called a bit of a megalomaniac lol

With me it's the pretty, pretty.

My 1940 British have available 4.5", 25pdrs and 5.5" guns.  2pdrs, Hotchkiss and Boyes AT.

I like to have a little of everything.

I like to have a lot of everything.

Lol I know what you mean.
I've got a 1940 Battlegroup being built German paratroopers against dads army and a few Brit regulars (even armed police) left at home.
My 1944 Swordbeach was left at home along with my Bagration Soviet hordes.
So while back out in Bavaria I've done the sensible thing! And started 1944 battle of Hungary and Budapest Armies.

You need to add some elves to your collection. Then ad the bad guy's normally outnumber the good guys you need loads more bad guy's...so the answer, not big enough yet! :)

Hi Bodvoc
Yea I want some Elves but I don't like any out there at the moment.
Was thinking of getting a Harradrim army using pendraken Middle East.
Will also order more orcs never have enough orcs

How big is too big? When you have more of every troop type than their historical counterpart ever did it's too big.

Since fantasy armies have, by definition, no historical counterpart fantasy armies are never too big! :)

Elves, dwarves, and certainly humans can be very bad guys too.

But don't know how to use it. Answer to the raised question, and referring to toys, anything bigger than 15mm.....
